Some of you may remember that I posted a thread about my 3 bin compost system about 12 months ago. Now, having cleared trees, bushes, tin sheets and general rubbish from the triangle at the bottom of the garden, my new compost bins are in place and in use.

The new compost bins. At the far end by the hardcore is the long term bin for tough compostable stuff.

THis bin has been sheeted since February and is now being emptied for use.

The sieving process. The compost is raked thro' the sieve with the hand fork

What does'n't pass the sieve is mixed with soft green material in the next bin.

The finished product. About 6 barrowloads from a 1 cubic metre bin

When no 2 bin is full it will be sheeted and left at least 6 months while bin 3 is in use. One bin is left empty for turning the compost. I usual manage about 20 barrowloads of sieved compost per year.

Your compost bins are great, just the kind of thing I'm looking for, did you buy them or make them? Also are they sitting on the soil:cnfs:

Hey, this looks very impressive (you may need to be careful about run-off from the compost bins into the stream by the way). But my wife bought me a whizz-bang modern Aeorbin 400 compost bin for my birthday. This converts stuff much, much faster than the trational way.... churns out first class compost and no need to worry about rats! She got it me as a surprise from www.buzzorganics.co.uk who, apparantly were very helpful. Thinking about selling my excess compost to my allotment pals :lollol:Anybody interested?
