Newbie on loose

Hi
My name is Mick , just got into gardening by helping my elderly next door neighbour and finding it interesting . Set out a small plot in the back of my property and am going to need plenty of help .
No idea on what I'm doing but fed up at looking at paving slabs all the time , am going to need help on what to plant and when to plant as I do not get a lot of sun on the plot .
So if you could put up with silly questions please I would be grateful .

As @Sheal says, we all start somewhere, loads of help on here, take pictures as a visual diary of what looks good and failures. upload some to site so we can help better, you say it`s shady, try to note when and where it gets sun.
