                  I think it would be the Smartphone, that rings while on your person, has all the news on a screen in colour, etc, etc,

                      I quite often think of things like this - how would my gran react if she were to see the technology that we have nowadays? She passed away when microwave ovens were still pretty much considered as witchcraft!

                      Even speaking to my own daughter, the realisation of just how far things have leapt along in the past 30 years or so is brought into sharp focus. She was complaining the other day because our broadband and cable TV service had gone down - - - you should have seen her face when I was trying to explain to her that when I was her age I had a 12" black and white TV (she replied, "well mine is black", and was utterly perplexed when I explained that I wasn't referring to the plastic around the screen :snork:, there were only three channels on the telly, no central heating, no internet and music either came on tapes or records.

                      I think she thought I had finally lost it, bless her.

                            A while ago wife's granny asked me to explain the internet. She had been impressed with the speed at which one of her grand kids had pulled up some info on their phone and had been told by grandkid in question that the phone has internet access. I tried to say it was like a library of collected knowledge, but all on computers that are all connected to each other via the phone network, and anyone can use it. She sort of half got the very basic concept but I could see on her face she didn't really get it but worse, I could see another expression on her face, she knew that if she asked more, she was not going to understand the answers. I consoled her quite honestly by telling her that for all its good, there is also a lot of rubbish and incorrect info on there, and books are generally better for knowledge, because at least they are usually vetted by a publisher whereas web content isn't.
