Daughter #2 got too cold to carry on with rosehip picking so we didn't get enough to make syrup today. Instead I thought i'd combine them with the medlars we picked last week.

Didn't have a recipe so did this.

    Half lb rose hips chopped.

2 lb bramleys, peeled n chopped.

    1 lb medlars, halved.

Threw whole lot in saucepan & covered in boiling water, boiled for about 3/4 hour till pulpy & then put in suspended jelly bag over night.

Tommorow will add sugar & boil till setting point is reached (always mess that bit up, despite loads of hints last year that all i wanted for christmas was a sugar thermometer :dh:)
    Then seal into sterilised condoms.

Hows that for novelty naughty edible christmas gifts.:yez:

:hehe: Great idea for a naughty christmas gift just as long as you don't send it to your local vicar!

I see that you delegate the exercise work to your daughter...........that's cheating!:D

Just had a try of it. Set properly, not over flavoursome but a jelly never the less.

Might try hawthorne with it next time, flavour it up a bit.

I remember the 1st time I made hawthorne wine, the day after, I had a gallon jelly.

I find that adding some finely chopped ginger or, lacking that, the powdered kind, gives a lovely flavour and zings up so many jams, jellies,.......... Some jams and jellies also taste better with a good dash of cinnemon.

 Like Kedi's ginger idea Ziggy... I used to make Hedgerow wine years ago & I had haw berries in that but also there was a wild damson tree in the hedge, so used to collect them & stone them & freeze them & some blackberries & elderberries too..
I would then collect the hips & haws when they were ready & defrost the fruit & make several gallons of wine.. Because of the damsons & elderberries it was a deep deep dark red wine, but very dry...
