    Hi All
I was given four outdoor big pots with various plants in , How do I know when these need re-potting ?. They look o.k. at the moment just want to know what to look for .
    Thanks

    Hi Micky

I tend to look out for roots of the plants coming out through the drainage holes in the pot which shows it's getting crowded in there. Also you might see roots near the surface of the soil. Other things to look out for is poor flowering, stunted growth and the leaves can even start dropping off.

If you've got perennial plants in the pots like shrubs, I repot when growth is slow or when they're dormant which gives them a chance to recover after having their roots disturbed. Hope this helps. :blue thumb:

I would repot them when they look too big for the pot they are in and the main thick roots are coming through the bottom.

      Hi Mike

Do you know the name of the plants you have which will help answer your question or/and pictures.

Agreed. Just to confuse matters some things like to be pot bound - so it would help to know what they are (or set a challenge by uploading a Photo and asking for an ID :) )
