    Good morning everyone,

I wonder what the government propose to do to our pensions. I already receive less this year on my private pension than I did last year apparently due to tax changes. I thought the tax changes were supposed to be in our favour not against.

Zigs, shame I am chucking a wheelbarrow out it has a puncture but it is a bit unwieldy anyway so you wouldn't want it.

Shiney, I hope you are enjoying your gallivanting around the countryside with your friends, sounds good.

WOO, hope you and the family are ok and well, take care.

Loli, Shame you have to work when so much is going on in that wonderful garden of yours.

'M' and Steve, LIF and LWW et al hope your are all ok, do take care. God bless all.:wub2:

Moyra, there shouldn't be any additional tax on your private pension but they may be getting your pension provider to deduct the tax for your state pension (if you receive one).

They pay the state pension without deducting tax and, in previuos years, they used to send a demand, or ask for a tax return or change your Code No. Nowadays they just change your Code No. with your private pension provider to grab the tax on the State pension.

You need to check with your pension provider why you are receiving less money and make sure you get a proper answer. They have this habit of just saying 'tax changes'! You ask them what the changes are, why they have changed and what the effect is. I never let them get away with fobbing me off with standard answers (although they try) and don't stop pestering them until I know exactly what's happening.

Hi Moyra, State Pension counts as taxable income but you shouldn't get a tax demand if that is your only income. Tax free allowances and age related allowances are a minefield but put simply your tax free allowance for 2014/15 is probably £10k or £10.5k if you were born before April 1948. There are other age related allowances but lets keep it simple.
If your accrued pensions come to more than your tax free allowance your pension provider(s) will deduct tax accordingly. If you are paying more tax in this tax year than the previous one it could be because your pensions increased in excess of the tax free allowance.
We do not only pay tax on pensions, all unearned income, interest from shares, rents etc. is subject to tax.
If you are worried do contact your Tax Office who will investigate for you, you could also consider getting in touch with Age Concern who can also help.
Hope that this is of help to you.

      Aloha everyone,

Sun is trying to come out.

We had a good, but wet, day yesterday (although we spent a lot of time shopping!) and a very good evening out with friends. We're relaxing nicely after all the hassle of the Open weekend. Today we intend going for a gentle stroll in the countryside, punctuated by frequent stops for refreshments.

      Have a great day.

      Aloha!

Morning to one and all. Dull but dry here in WY but with the promise of some sunshine later.
I hope that you all have a good and productive day.

                Morning all

Back in France for a week. It's a bit blustery this morning but the sun is trying to break through so fingers crossed for a dry day. After a month away there's plenty to catch up on in the garden. A friend has been coming round and watering the containers and greenhouse plants and also cut my grass so it's not as bad as it could have been!

Hope everyone is well and has a wonderful day.

                  Aloha everyone,

Yesterday turned into a lovely sunny day and the sun is already showing itself this morning.

It should be another day of leisurely wandering about soaking up the sunshine in lovely surroundings. We and our friends tried out another Indian restaurant yesterday (too far away to become a regular haunt) and it was very good. Service was a bit slow but the food made up for it. They had two English waiters and Mrs Shiney asked our waiter if he speaks Bengali and he said he didn't. So she taught him a phrase in Bengali which meant 'How are you?'. When he went into the kitchen the chef had his back to him and he said the phrase. The chef, automatically, replied in Bengali, then looked round because of the unfamiliar voice and dropped the metal plate he was holding. :heehee: Apparently, the other kitchen staff burst out laughing and the waiter came straight out to tell Mrs Shiney what happened.

                  Have a great day

                  Aloha!

Morning all, hope you are well.

The sun is up and blazing, and the birds are chattering away.

Interview day has arrived, am a little nervous, but I'll just try and be my best, if it is meant to be, it will be.

                      Have a great day.
