I know I'm about 5 years behind everyone else, but is anyone else a fan of the Game of Thrones series? I started reading the books about 6 weeks ago and have been addicted from the first chapter. I'm on Book 3 part 1 at the moment so plenty left to last me the whole summer. Not started on the TV series yet, that pleasure is still to come!

So many fantastic characters. I think Tyrion Lannister has to be my favourite. It's fascinating that George RR Martin has included a number of characters with disabilities and treated them positively and unsentimentally. I'm also working out the parallels with the Wars of the Roses, not sure if this is deliberate or just inevitable in a medieval war novel.

I was just listening to a news report earlier about the Taliban and it sounded like it could have been lifted straight out of the novels!

What do you all think? But no spoilers, please!

I am also a fan. I had just finished reading about the Yorks and Lancasters, by happy coincidence, when I discovered Game of Thrones so it resonated immediately. Yes, there are a lot of parallels with modern politics. :)

watching the t.v version when you haven't read the books is torture, as they always finish an episode on a massive cliff hanger, so I've started reading the books now (well at least the parts i need to know lol)

I am hooked on the tv version... and i do agree every episode is killer because of the cliff hangers.. more dramatic i guess. You can never get comfortable in your seat, dont know who will die next...

massive fan , don't have a favorite or thats it !!! dodo time, each one is like a mini movie, heavy going at times especially the other night the final sequence and I bet no one thought that was going to happen :hate-shocked: I think two more episodes to go.

The new one "Penny Dreadful" is getting good and that seance was scary

and Vikings on the history channel if you want more blood and gore

              Spruce

The books' chapters end with cliffhangers too, often you only find out what has happened because another character mentions it.

Another thread I'm beginning to notice is dispossessed heirs - Tyrion, Sam Tarly, Theon Greyjoy, wonder where all that will lead to. I suppose the whole series kicks off with a dispossessed heir, Viserys.

I'm finding it hard to keep up with all the knights and their allegiances, and the plots and sub-plots.

I'm also wondering about the significance of the dire-wolves and the fact that Sansa's wolf is dead.

Is the TV series up to Book 3? I assume they are going to make series of all the novels? I watched half of the very first one on line, against my better judgement as I wanted to keep my own mental image of how the characters should look and speak without being influenced by the casting. I must say I was not happy with the choice of Sean Bean for Eddard Stark. I didn't think they showed how viciously Viserys bullied Daenerys, either.

The dire wolves I think will come to light later. But... has everyone in this thread read the books, or just watching the tv series and not wanting to spoil by reading the books? I don't want to say anything & ruin it for anyone only watching the show?
