What a weird day weather wise - the storm with monsoon type rain battered anything and everything in its path, and left gardens like pools and roads like rivers; yet less than a mile up the road, the ground was completely dry!

Morning all, hope you are well.

@Lolimac @moyra , that week flew by, and if yesterday at work is anything to go by, so will this week :yikes:

    Have a great day.

      Aloha everyone,

Steve, the week certainly seems to have flown by.

Yesterday was a lot cooler, still pretty warm, so I was able to work in the garden at a reasonable time of day. I cut back over 100 Verbascum Chaixii in the veg plot so I can now get to the runner beans and other crops in the areas that don't have the weed suppressant membrane. I've started weeding those areas :phew:. I also cut down one of the Mullein Verbascum that was getting in the way. I had to use a saw as it had a 3" diameter stem and was 12ft high! :hate-shocked:

Tree surgeons are coming in today to remove and stump grind half of the conifer hedge along the driveway by the car port. The trunks are about a 2ft diameter. I've also got to get them to cut one of the poplars at the bottom of the garden as the trunk is splitting and moving in the wind. Some of the 40ft high stems are going to have to go but I want the trunk below them left for the wildlife as it is rotting and must already have plenty of denizens in it.

      Have a great day

      Aloha!

          Good Morning All.

Hannah, by golly that baby of yours keeps growing. Lovely photo.

Shiney, it seems a never ending job for you in the garden, when you've done one thing you are onto the next, do take time to smell the flowers!

WOO, that's a fantastic sky. We have had a lot of rain lately. I am only the other side of the river from you so get much the same weather. I have a load of washing in at the moment and another load of whites to do as well so am hoping the rain will hold off today or at least until later in the day.

Still suffering with cramp and the homeopathic quinine has still not arrived from the states, they must be making it from fresh! The paracetamol/aspirin/codeine concoction known as Tesco Pain Reliever caplets, which I am now taking to help relax my legs but they are playing havoc with my hiatus hernia and stomach problems. I might ask the doc to increase my Lansoprazole back to 30mg per day as it was in the beginning. I am only taking 15mg at the moment along with metoclopramide before meals as well. What a sorry state I must seem but on the whole am feeling better than I was.

Have a good day all, God bless.:wub2: 2316651.jpg

I hope everyone is in fine fettle:dbgrtmb:

Lovely blue skies here again but I'm hoping it will be a fraction cooler at least while I'm at work as I really am struggling in this heat,it's so hot in there and even when I pop outside there hasn't been any relief from it:rolleyespink: I remember the day when the hotter the better:old:

Hope you are all keeping cool and taking it easy:dbgrtmb:

                  Aloha everyone,

Tree work all done. Now I've got to barrow all the ground tree stumps to the compost heap - should be very good mulch. For those of you that know the garden, it's a long way from the front garden to the heaps at the far end of the back garden. I reckon there must be around thirty barrow loads, so about three hours work!

I can't leave it all in situ as it's a good seven or eight inches higher than the driveway and I want to get soil and manure dug in. I have soil at the bottom of the garden by the compost heaps (more humping) and shall have to go out and acquire manure from one of the farms. Just thinking about it has made me tired :phew: :heehee:

I've reliably been informed, by a retired pest controller, that I need to get rid of the wasp nest that's in the ground in the roots of our golden plum tree. He said that as the fruit ripens the wasps will get drunk on them and then become dangerous. He said that all that area (fruit trees and veg patch) will be unsafe to work in! So I shall have to buy some wasp powder.

The crows have also become a nuisance. The one that is messing up our windows has also started ripping out the stops in the top of the hinges on our French doors. I have got to try and find somewhere to buy new ones. His days are numbered!

                  Another hot day today.

                  Have a great day

                  Morning everyone,

WOO, Another lovely photo. Thank you.

Loli, I do feel for you in all that heat at work, not fair, you are not allowed by law to work in such temperatures.

Shiney, you have fair worn me out with how much work you have got on today, I would try to do it in shifts with breaks in between or you will be knocking yourself up!

Have a good day everyone, yet another stinker of a hot one, roll on Autumn! God bless.:wub2:

Talking about birds that days are numbered:mad:...Just finishing my last cuppa before work this morning and was watching a Mother Blackbird feeding one of her young ones:wub2: then down came Harry the Hawk he didn't catch either of them but did spook them,Mum got away but baby came crashing into the window and when I looked he was laid there breathing heavily obviously stunned:sad:...I picked him up and put him under a bush while he pulled himself together..Mum came and was trying to rally him it was so sad to see...he didn't make it:sad: I haven't stopped thinking about it all day:rolleyespink:That :mute: Hawk is just plain greedy and I know he's probably got young to feed but he's picking the birds off every half hour,he's more of a problem than any of the cats around here:mad:

Loli, Michael did all the heavy work as I continued to do the weeding and pruning.

Re the baby bird: they usually die of shock but you can sometimes help them to recover it you get there quick enough. Three drops of Rescue Remedy (or similar such as Five flower Essence) in half a cup of water. Then use the pipette from the bottle and trickle some into the mouth. It has never failed for Mrs Shiney - but you need to be quick.
