I have 2 roses which were here when we moved in. Unfortunately both had to be moved earlier this year (January/February). I pruned them and they have recovered slightly- a few new very short stems and small bunches of leaves on each. They both have a main stem or 2 which is about 60-70cm tall before branching. They do look quite old.

Are they climbers (grandma said so) and why have they faired so badly this year? I thought climbers were fast growing.

They have both been treated for insects and blackspot, plus been fed a couple of times.

I'm guessing it was all too much of a shock and they're in recovery. Bet you get loads of flower next year though.

The plant will be working on its root system before it does much on top :).
