Geezer, it seems a waste of mushroom - and time :). I'll be using mushrooms with my stir fry tonight. A wipe over will be sufficient. :blue thumb:

So then there is the grilled portabella mushrooms. Yum. Marinade then in good balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, salt. And grill. Put between bread with a slice tomato. yum again.

They all are! They're worrying mostly about the pesticides which are absorbed into the fruit anyway from what I read. Yet I bet they don't wear a mask outdoors!

Sounds nice apart from the garlic powder. Could I use proper garlic instead?

Garlic powder is very handy for quick use but isn't as good as fresh garlic - particularly home grown.

It's best to read the label if buying powder as some add preservatives or chemicals to make it free running - and some have trans fats (hydrogenated oils)! A lot of them have dried parsley but that's quite a useful addition.

If you use fresh garlic for this process, you would have to grate it fine then brush it around the mushroom cap, inside and all. And let it sit like that for a couple hours before the grilling.
My portabella mushrooms are kept stem side up for the marinating process, as the marinate pools inside the mushroom thus soaking deep into the mushroom the belly will sit on about a 1/4 inch of marinate.

I use one of these and keep the puree in a small jar of olive oil - in the fridge. Useful when you don't need loads,

Mrs Shiney made one of those graters when she was doing pottery. They work very well :blue thumb:

Thought this may be a useful addition to the kitchen. Not sure of cost

I watched as far as 25 seconds and in that time the machine had produced fewer slices of mushroom than I can do with my big knife and board by hand, and the way I do it, I don't have to pick all the bits off the floor, as I keep them on the actual board:)

But one of the guys seemed to prefer the bits on the floor
He kept picking them up. You should have watched more :)

I usually grate / slice, chop garlic as I go, don't seem to be a bother to me at all. and also slicing mushrooms by hand also not a chore. not a gadget person.
