Or what? (I thought it was supposed to be sorted with 18 months?)

    1) It doesn't happen and it's all off. And what about if a Yes vote that is only by a tiny majority, and nothing is ever agreed? (years and years of chaos).
    2) Scotland does it unilaterally without agreement with rest of UK?
    3) Something else?

Personally, if there's a Yes Vote, I reckon the resulting chaos will go on for many, many years. Should the cost of that to the rest of the UK be taken into account in the calculations?

I voted today on an IT forum that I am a member of, and the split was very similar - and the thread was started by a guy from Glasgow on that one.

Ooooh, does that mean I will be able to claim dual nationality too???

To go with my dual personality, of course...............

I have already voted NO. I am British AND Scottish. I and anybody I know are horrified and extremely worried that there just could be a YES vote IF and it's 1 hell of big if you believe what is being spouted by the polls.

My biggest fear is whether Scotland will ever really recover from this even after a NO vote. There is real hatred about. I know of 3 people who have been verbally and 1 physically abused by YES voters. All 7 NO voting placards in fields between where I live and my nearest small town (about 12 miles away) have been vandalised and I live in a rural area.

I spent the 1st 20 odd years of my life in England and while I choose to live in Scotland, England and The English are my neighbours. Yes there are some things which annoy us Scots about the English but no doubt the reverse applies. That said I'd rather have England for a neighbour than any other country.

My husband who is Irish and knows plenty about how there can be warring within a single country did say some time ago that this whole affair might lead to a civil war. I thought at the time that he was being completely over the top. Having witnessed the behaviour of some recently I am not so sure now. I never thought I would be embarrassed at calling myself Scottish but if there is a YES vote then we as a family will have to think seriously as to whether we should stay. I'd hate to leave all my friends here and have worked my socks off to create a not bad 1 1/2 acre garden, hell I've only just had a new greenhouse put up and planted many many new shrubs/trees. All that said the thought of being ruled over by the likes of wee Eck (Salmond) and his side kick Sturgeon with no brakes on his plans being applied by South of The Border I doubt we will stay.

If it's a YES then I will have to accept the majority vote but it doesn't mean I have to stay here and be ruled over by despots. I have a soft spot for Northumberland!

My mum said similar yesterday - the YES campaign appears to have some quite aggressive supporters, or supporters who are using aggressive tactics. Sad.

The only saving grace that I have in my mind is that at the moment its mostly the heed-tha-baws that are in favour of a Yes vote, and much of that is due to misguided loyalty, lack of education, or a complete understanding of anything more technical than painting their faces blue and yelling Freeeeeedommm!!! However, because its mostly this sort of person, they are particularly vocal and demonstrative - - those who I would class as the more intelligent, the 'thinkers' are currently not having their voices heard, and this is either because they haven't yet decided and are still weighing up the arguments, or they have more decorum and understand that their vote is not only their way to properly express their wishes for the future, but also that their vote is an entirely personal thing.

I live in hope that when those X's are totted up next week that the majority will be a No; should that be the case, I sincerely hope that Salmond and his Klingon Sturgeon crawl off to whatever hole they crawled out of.

Salmond and his cronies have apparently commented that the visit by DC, Cleggy and Darling will just support the Yes campaign, because, and this was his reasoning, these are the three all time least popular men in politics.

Has he not heard that there's a general election next year anyway? I do hope he's not trying to affect everyone's lives for ever just because he doesn't like some people who are only temporarily in power.

And whatever he thinks privately, the man is insane to say how he hates these people in power in Westminster. Does he not realise that even if he gets his way, he still has to do business with them and negotiate with them? He'll still be needing trade and most likely (short term at least) funding from this side of the border. Imagine going to your bank and saying, "I really hate you, I might decide to default on any debt I have with you, nobody likes you or trusts you, but can I borrow some money anyway and can we do business please?". The man is a raving lunatic.

And what if the vote is No? Would it be wise for central government to plough lots of investment into Scotland knowing that they might simply call for a referendum again and pull out?

Lets see what happens. I hope common sense prevails.

Sadly, I think their visit HAS done more harm than good to be honest. Not only does it smack of utter desperation at this late stage in the game, but this is one thing that Salmond is actually right about. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the vast majority of Scots would rather stick pins in their own eyes than vote Tory - - David Cameron has to be the most hated Tory since Maggie Thatcher, and I can guarantee you he will not have been welcomed by the majority in Scotland.

Clegg, well he is just a weasel - the Lib Dems were seen as an alternative vote to Labour, and at the last general election a lot of votes went to the Lib Dems simply because people were fed up with the current labour government but would not vote Tory (see pins in eyes, above). When Clegg went into the coalition with the Tories, he sold his soul to the devil and many of those who voted Lib Dem felt (rightly) betrayed - and that is before you get to their performance whilst in power,

And Milliband - well, lets be honest, he is hardly Mr Charisma is he? And that only serves to make things all the more grim; essentially, those heed-tha-baws I mentioned earlier (think big, hairy, somewhat gruff and swearing like a trooper and you will have the idea - and that is just the women!) - they are being given the choice of voting to vote for three posh wee nyaffs from England or vote for a Scotsman......

When this whole thing started, David Cameron basically thought "Yes, we will give him his referendum, he will get nowhere and then it will all go away; and I will look really clever for giving the people of Scotland their say" - - - so much so, that he ruled out the third option of 'Devolution Max'; and that was a HUGE mistake.

He underestimated the strength of feeling in Scotland, overestimated his own popularity (you only have to look at the rise of UKIP at the local elections to see what the strength of feeling is in England, so imagine that magnified....), and now that it is nearly upon us he is quietly bricking it because he is going to be the man that was at the helm when good-ship United Kingdom was steered toward a massive iceberg.....
