I should say I'm not an expert just trying to be helpful. :D But it sounds to me like it could be over heating inside causing the fuse to blow. As its an electrical problem you will need to take it in for repair.

Its an indication something is wrong and its not worth taking chances with it Rosa, I would not use it anymore till its checked out by electrician - if you have a local independant electrical shop take it in there and they will test it for you.

thanks guys, just wondering iff its worth paying lots of money out to have it looked at and repaired as the price of these hoovers are fairly cheap these says, might just buy a new one as ive had that one a few years now

A2000watt vac should take about 8 amps.
So, to blow a 13 Amp fuse your vac is pulling to much power.
It does suggest as above that there is an electrical problem.
One thing you may check and is safe to do is check you have no blockages (Is it sucking well)?
I,m not familiar with your vac but I assume it has a brush.
    Can that brush rotate freely?
Is there some kind of mechanical restriction that can overload the motor?
If the above does not resolve your problem I would suggest bin it and get a new one.
    Hope the above helps Rosa

Hi Rosa, have you checked to see if any of your filters are blocked?I used to use a Dyson Hoover and if my filters got too blocked with dust and fluff and I hadn't noticed it used to stop dead and wouldn't work until it had cooled down and then would only work for so long until it over heated again.Eventually we found that nothing would stop it over heating and Mr Kandy thought the only thing that it could be was the Carbon Filter but thye couldn't be changed.

I now have a Electrolux Vitesse Petlover 1700w and have bought extra filters so I can have a spare one to swop when one gets full.I soak the filters in warm soapy water for a few hours then clean the fins of the filter with an old nail brush. When it comes up clean I put it somewhere sunny in the summer and in the airing cupboard in the winter to dry.I now have no problems with it cutting out.

I also wash the fluff collector drum as well to keep that fresh:)

My Dyson was so heavy that I struggled up and down the stairs and if I was still using one with my Tendonitis I would suffer as well. The high wattage ones are good but too heavy for me, and with my Dyson I found the wire coil in the long pipe used to cut through the outer casing and the tools kept on breaking.

Yours looks fairly new so am surprised that it has packed up,but then again every electrical item made these days has a special trigger point in them so they conk out two weeks are the Warranty has run out.Or is that me imagining things:D

Good Luck and hope you get it sorted soon.:)

It all points to the motor on its way out.
Increased current suggests decreased resistance across the motor
Decreased resistance across a motor suggests the motor windings are on the way out and It wont be long before you see / hear a horrible noise and smell of burning elecgtrics.
    Or
If assuming it has a brush motor It could be one day it will not start at all!
because the motor brushes have stopped on a part of the commutator that has burnt out windings connected to it.
I could go one but I think I better stop now before I bore you.
    Original advise still stands
    Bin it
    and
    flex the plastic:gnthb:

Rosa have a look through your local paper. When our last Dyson packed up I rang round and got someone who came and looked at it and then took it away to their repair shop.

Rang and said it was the motor that had gone and give me a quote to fix it. Just short of buying a new one so the kind man dropped the old hoover back to me a few days later.

Totally free of charge. He says he wins some, he looses some but has a good reputation based on that!

Might be worth a ring round if you can get someone to give you a price to repair, then its up to you whether you opt to repair or replace

    :)

Would agree, Dysons are very heavy. We had two uprights at one stage but have left the one remaining working upright upstairs for the kids to use in their rooms.

We brought a cylinder Dyson for downstairs which I must say is fantastic. All the good features of the Dyson but without the weight. Much easier to manage - yet still picks up every single last dog hair :)

Might also be worth looking at Argos Rosa - when I got the last one (designed for laminate flooring and a head that goes under low furniture) Argos had upto £100 off selected models at the time!

The one I picked had £70 off I think - it all helps!

This may be a silly question but have you checked the fuse you take out has actually blown (as it there is no connectivity between the two terminals)? It was mentioned above but there's a heat cut out on motors which wont let you use them again until cooled but they dont blow the fuse. I was just thinking that the time it takes to change the fuse may be long enough for it to cool again which would appear as a blown fuse problem when it isn't. Had a similar prob with my Dyson.
