    Hi Sam1974x
The front and back gardens are a five year plan and now 3 years are up and still lots to do. The work at the rear took 2 years of blood and sweat and not finished yet.

    Hi Claire,
It certainly isn't perfect by any manner of means, but I will work at it and who knows maybe when my 5 year plan comes to fruition??????

Wow it looks fab GNM lots of hard work well worth it. Council's can be a pain sometimes. My ex lived in an old manor house and the grass verge right outside was owned by the council and looked a mess but they weren't allowed to do anything with it!! They did try to swap the triangle shaped verge about 10ft away that they owned for the little verge but the council didn't want to know.

Youngdaisydee & Little miss road rage,
Thank you very much for your kind comments, it's good to know that others appreciate ones efforts. I have'nt been able to do anything this week except for today, I had a fall whilst doing a leaflet drop for my work. I pulled all the ligaments in my left knee which had arthritis in it anyway. That is the reason I had the time to come onto the chat forum this week during usual working hours. I went back to work today but suffered all day due to the pain.
Anyway enough of my self pity, here is a couple of pics of my home made obelisk. The top is the sudo brass knobs from a bedhead I found in a skip. I thought they would do a good job and it seems to have been a good choice.
The original pics in my previous posts showed it without the finial. I have moved it to the front garden and planted 3 cematis and about 10 sweet peas all the way round it.

When I got home from work about 5ish, I was down feeding the chickens when I heard this almighty crash. I nearly had kittens. After checking what had happened, it turned out that an old elm tree in the adjacent wood had crashed to the ground. Luckily it had fallen towards the river and had come no where near me or the house. I was really relieved. Think of all the firewood I will get from that. It was about 30mtrs high and about 900mm in diam. The chainsaw will be busy this coming Autumn.

Thanks Walnut, It's hard work but worth it. Back to creating borders tomorrow. I am thinking of making the bottom half of the lawn all beds with a winding path in the middle creating the ilusion of width. I am going to plant more acers where the Palmatum is at the moment

This will give some cover from the wind and different colours and species will work with each other.
    What do you think?

    G/man said,
That sounds a good idea, I got rid of a lawn and did that put a cross path in the middle which gave me 4 beds each planted differently all reachable from the paths with a hoe for weeding.

Looking absolutely lovely! I hope you give yourself some time to sit back and admire all the work you've done. Love the propellor and churn - adding lots of interest, and I'm sure in the final plan they will fit in perfectly! Looking forward to more pics as it grows along!

Thanx walnut and NatalieB also Andybike. I have sunk the wooden support (Iroko) into a substantial concrete base and then the edging blocks are set in cement along with the pebbles. I think the only way anyone could steal it is if they had a good sharp saw. If I heard the sound of wood being sawn in the night I could be down in the garden before they managed to be off with it. The only dillema would be phone the police or take mr baseball bat along for company????
