I'm not sure that will be the case, I have a feeling they will come out with some kind of agreement where we still help them out should they need it.

Nah, I can't see that happening - not least as Wee Eck has already said that they wouldn't honour their share of the UK debt/deficit. There is no more reason for the remaining UK to bail Scotland out than there is for us to bail Southern Ireland out, or even Somalia for that matter. And this is the bit that Salmond and his cronies just don't seem to get -- they want all the perceived benefits that independence will bring without any of the risks or costs.

Its a bit like being hell bent on going on a camping holiday, spending a fortune on a load of camping equipment only to set up tent in the back garden in case the weather turns a bit rough.

Could you see the remainder of the UK stand by and watch if Scotland was broke?
Didn't we help bail out Ireland?

          Yes.

A lot of big business is done between the UK and Eire. I know a lot of business is done with Scotland, but I'm pretty sure Eire has a much bigger effect on our economy due to the size and nature of some of the companies that have their HQ there.

I'm not saying that the rest of the UK would stand by and watch - of course, they would assist, but that assistance would be just that - assistance. At the moment, anything that the Scottish government does is underwritten by the UK (and ultimately BOE); in the event of independence there may well be a pledge of X-million pounds 'support' but no gilt-edged guarantee that they have now.

And of course, if Scotland chooses to default on their share of the national debt.... well, that support may well not be as forthcoming and their credit rating will be shot to bits before they even start - unless Wonga start lending in figures of £millions

The real question is, "are the people of Scotland completely insane? Yes or No".

                  We'll know soon enough.

Considering our poll is made up of mostly people that are not eligible to vote, I'm not putting too much faith into it.:snork:

I wonder how many potential 'Yes' voters have thought about how independence will affect the supply of bootlegged baccy and beer. It has already been officially stated that an independent Scotland will not automatically be accepted into the EU, it will have to apply like any other country. That will mean that they wont enjoy the same freedom of movement, and the same almost limitless access to cheap European beer and baccy. It may well be the end of the 'Booze Cruise' for Scots.

What will happen to all the Scottish ex-pats in Spain? There are a fair few. When they are no longer EU citizens, I presume they'll have to apply for all sorts of visas to stay, especially the many, many Scots that have opened successful businesses abroad.

We wont even know on Friday about the fate of those people, because the Scots are going to the polling stations without any actual information at all about how they or anyone else will be affected, as Salmond has said they'll decide AFTER the vote how independence will work.
