Just noticed that today is officially the first day of Autumn, trees near us though have been showing signs of Autumn for almost a month now though, due in part I think to that cold snap we had around 5-6 weeks back, tricking them into thinking Autumn had come that much earlier. There are already 'Conkers' on the ground, as we went out Sunday to pick them up. Last year, Conkers weren't ready to gather until about the first week in October.

Looking forward to the colours on the trees changing :)

I've got a Weigela flowering again too, and also a poor mixed up Azalea starting to bloom as well!

There'll be no colour in the trees here this year, with next to no rain since April the leaves are just drying out and dropping. Everything is brown in colour, trees, hedgerows and banks, and lawns aren't looking to good either.

The conkers are earlier this year because of the mild spring, they flowered earlier.

I always thought good Autumn colour followed dry sunny conditions with cold nights.

I have primroses, spring flowering clematis and roses in bloom. Last Thursday I saw violets and clover in the hedgerow when I was picking blackberries and sloes. There were also more Robin's pincushion galls on the wild roses than I think I've ever seen in one year. Don't know how the plants will cope with the winter but it's certainly been an interesting year so far!

But not as dry as they have been here Pete. Because of the lack of rain trees have been shutting down for the last month to six weeks. Leaves are just turning brown, curling up and dropping.

They have other names too (Bedeguar gall or moss gall) but I was first told Robin's pincushion and that's my favourite.
