Tax Disc is no more

That be more than the car it's for is worth (a 14 year old red Seat Leon).

 

I don't think they have been checking tax discs (as in: looking in the windscreen) for years. All the number plate recognition cameras check them, which I believe includes the dash cameras in traffic police cars - so drive past one of them and an alert will go off, as it will if the police pull someone over as they will run a numberplate check (which also checks for insurance)

Tax disc used to require presentation of Insurance and MOT, so at least those were current when the car was taxed. Now both of those are electronic, and centralised, that step isn't needed (and the check, now, is good for current state of MOT and insurance, not just when the car was taxed).

I think its a good idea, I'm all for anything that reduces unnecessary paperwork, tree-felling-for-paper and all the rest.

But I agree that policing needs to be good enough (time will tell) and I think the whole non-transferability of road tax is a con to gain a month's road tax every time a vehicle is sold. What's the average ownership time of a car - 3 years? that's a 3% price increase windfall for the government ...

I saw that one and thought WTF? as that one expires in FEB 2015 ... as luck would have it I have one expiring in September 2015 ... now that IS the last tax disc

 

I've got most of my tax discs for my car, I could make a fortune!

 

I wonder if it will be worth more in the future? or whether everyone THINKS it will be worth more, so the eBay time is NOW?!!

I need to get it out of the windscreen before someone else decides it has a value and heaves a brick through it!

I've not had a valid tax disc in for 7 months now. Gothilda has been taxed the entire time, but last time they didn't actually bother to send the disc out (a few of my friends experienced the same around the same time), then the latest one arrived a month before the change of law, so I saved it. Might be worth something, still on its original letter, not cut out. Who knows.
