Earlier I mowed my lawns for the first time in a fortnight due to the weather. I finished the path and was cleaning up clippings the mower hadn't and had a fright when I came across this Wasp's nest!
Our local Angler has treated it and has first dibs on the grubs in the nest...he's welcome to them, the nest had to go as Mrs Pal has serious reactions to stings.

LOL!! I nearly stepped on a ground hornets nest once. Just about gave me a heart-o!!! Got rid of the boogers so some kids wouldn't get attacked as it was on the very front edge of the property. Could have been a very bad day that!

We have had several built underground at that end of the garden...There must be something attracting them to come back so often...and it isn't bececause of fruit trees or other obvious food source.
I do however try to keep it a little 'wild' up there,so perhaps they like the 'wild' food supply.:)

Well you learn something new every day

I have never heard of wasps building nests in lawns. Keep your flip flops on to be on the safe side.:)

In over forty years gardening...still begining I know:hehe:, and a long way to go before becoming a professional, that's for sure!....
I have had countless such nests ,and at least a dozen in this plot alone.
:)I must be doing something right/wrong to attract them.

Yikes - not the place to stand and chat to someone in bare feet eh? I'd be pretty darned quick as well to get out of there. Hope you get it sorted soon.

A few years ago I was trimming the greenery at the bottom of my garden with an electric hedge trimmer, when a wasp flew out, straight at me and stung my in the eye. (well, on my eyelid luckily, as I blinked.)

Later that day I crept into the overhang, looked up and came face to face with a large wasps nest a foot away from my face. So I got straight on the phone to our local pest control man - who quickly arrived and then sent his teenage son in to dispatch the wasps while he chatted to me!

The nest is no more...and it took only one dose of powder! I've kept a careful watch and all's clear.:gnthb:
