We use Amazon quite a lot, not least because their prices are generally very good particularly when you use the free SuperSaver delivery; however recently their service seems to be getting slower.

For the avoidance of doubt, I am not thinking of any 'Marketplace' purchases as I know that they come direct from a third party seller (and often from half way round the world!); I mean those items which Amazon have in stock.

Our most recent order was placed on Sunday, all items coming from Amazon themselves and SuperSaver delivery selected. Whilst I fully expected that they would not be here quickly, I have only just had the email telling me that the order has been dispatched. SuperSaver delivery has never been the quickest option - that is a given, but it never used to be this bad. More concerning is the fact that this isn't exactly the busiest time of year - how bad is it going to be shortly when the Christmas stuff gets going?

The cynic in me wonders if it is a deliberate thing to get people to take up their Prime service (if we had that, I would have had my order two days ago), but in reality I wonder how many customers will be getting cheesed off with the tardy service and will then look elsewhere?

    Anyone else finding the same?

I use them every month or so, never had any problem with delivery times, often receive an item despatched email the same day & the item arrives a couple of days later, even with super saver delivery.

If things appear to be taking longer than usual, contact them via online chat, explain there's a deadline such as you're going on hols and unless your stuff is already loaded in a van they will usually upgrade to expedited next day delivery free of charge (I like free).

Yes, I agree they are much slower than they used to be,
and on many items not as competitive.

I've only used Amazon a few times.
        Its always taken ages.

I dont consider them much when buying online, I prefer to deal with a supplier directly.

Must admit, I can never work out all this used or new stuff with them.
If I want second hand I'll go to Ebay or a jumble sale.

Handy, thank you. Not sure how much I will use it, but I will give it a go.

@pete - the second hand idea is pretty much the same as Ebay - its marketplace (third party) sellers who sell through Amazon, with Amazon's software taking care of the financial transaction etc (in the same way that PayPal does for Ebay).

I personally don't like Ebay, mainly because of PayPal to be honest - I just don't trust it as there seems to be little in the way of buyer protection; going with Amazon, their payments system is more in line with every other e-commerce business, and I would anticipate that in the event of things going really badly belly up that Amazon would step in and do the right thing, if only to protect their own name.

From the sellers point of view, it saves them worrying about maintaining their own site, paying for shopping cart software, or having to have payment facilities -- I'd imagine that they get an order form from Amazon which they use to pack and send your order, and Amazon will put the money in their account (less a fee of course)

As a buyer & seller on ebay I find buyer protection is fantastic, it's seller protection that's non existent , if you know how to play the system you can get almost anything free, that's why small sellers are leaving in droves, leaving just the big stores & the Chinese sellers selling cheap tat.

I haven't ordered anything from Amazon for a while because the prices went up for delivery to the island, they were bad enough before as we're outside the UK and we're very rarely given the option of supersaver on items. Goods usually arrive within a week, not bad considering it has to be shipped. I shop more elsewhere on the internet now and in some cases I get free delivery.

            That's an interesting situation

They're both the same DVD (there was only one version of the film that came out in 1964). The DVD covers shown are exactly the same picture but reversed and moved sideways. They've also changed the tones of the colours on the picture. Most peculiar!
