Scary yes, but given that statistically we're still more likely to die of heart attack or the flu, I'm not inclined to worry to much about it. Besides, the way things are going we'll have more to worry about what with WW3 threatening to start, what with the Ruskies getting shirty, and Isis taking over the middle east, and North Korea itching to fight everyone, and China, Japan and the US in a three way stand-off.

Perhaps the ebola scare is a handy distraction.

Crikey,so sorry to hear you have been unwell Marley and as you say it can come out of the blue when you least expect it.One reason why we should all try to slow down a bit and take extra care of our health. It used to be the men that was always talked about as having the heart attacks, strokes etc but they reckon after the menapause(sp) the rate of women having heart attacks goes.

          Hope you feel better now.

Apologies for my ignorance as I'm not 'up' on the whys and wherefores of this world the way it's going and try desperately to bury my head in the sand:rolleyespink: but this is germ warfare at it's worst IMHO...everyone should be vigilant .Our 'borders' seem to be seriously lacking in 'control' of what and who ever is entering this country and it's about time someone got their finger out before it's too late.....

Sorry, I hadn't realised. I've not been in the staff room much lately. I didn't mean to be insensitive. I hope you're on the mend now though.

Meanwhile, while all eyes are on Spain and Africa for fear of ebola, a case of necrotising fasciitis goes largely unnoticed right here in northern England.

              http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-29414450

Fortunately the woman received very prompt and professional emergency medical care, so she only lost a finger, but while we fear ebola, which takes days or weeks to possibly kill, necrotising fasciitis takes hours to definitely kill if treatment is not administered fast enough. Treatment consists of aggressively removing the infected tissue before the bacteria can spread.

According to the Daily Wail the first Brit has died in Macedonia of the Ebola virus so I expect it will be on the news and in the papers tomorrow.I think also a woman in Australia is in isolation with symptoms of it so it looks like it is gradually spreading round the world.:gaah:

Mr "M" and I were discussing this the other day. He encounters illegal immigrants in his work and so, to a degree, he is among those who would be vulnerable should one of those illegal immigrants be either infected or a carrier - and he wouldn't necessarily know. Then he would return home; then I would be out and about doing my thing .... etc., etc.

Now, if healthy illegal immigrants are able to get into this country (and that is beyond control) then I can't see how it would be possible to exclude/contain an infected/carrier illegal immigrant determined on entering the country :noidea:
