    Hi jjordie,

    As you say whatever next?

The police station mentioned at Bethel Street Norwich is our local station as I live about 3 miles from Norwich. I haven't read the paper tonight but I expect there will be an article in there.

We as a nation inflict it upon ourselves. I've never seen Muslims in the press actually complaining about Christmas decorations - yet, we as a nation, (or those scum sucking politicians that we have voted in to represent us), take it upon themselves to strip our town centres of anything Christmas, on the off chance that someone non Christian will be offended. I live in a very multicultural area, and to be honest, I think the Muslims and other religious groups in the area think it's a bit of a joke - that we ourselves, take our own identity away - but not at their demand. So, I don't think anything is 'inflicted' upon us, we have done it to ourselves.
The way things are in my eyes - if you find yourself behind bars you have lost any rights that you would have on the outside, so I don't think that giving a Christian a copy of a bible at night, is any more right than giving a Muslim a compass. You give away your rights to a normal life as far as I'm concerned the minute you are put behind bars. If you are a decent member of society, you wouldn't have lost your rights to begin with.
In this day and age people are pretty much free to come and go as they please, we should be able to live in harmony with one another, and accept each other for what we are, and what we stand for, not for who/what we believe in.
Let all the criminals that are behind bars, on tags or whatever, go without what is considered the norm for them, they want rights to anything.......then try earning them.

    So would I.

The next cop shop to get them is going to be Kings Lynn. It was in their paper on tuesday apparently. If they commit crime, they should have privilages stopped when in a Police cell and no matter WHAT religous grounds they claim to have.

They are going to give them compasses so they can go to prayer?

I think a chat with God about morality is a bit beyond criminals isn't it?

But why does there even have to be a 'them' and 'us' society? I like the ex Australian Prime Minister - he had the gutso to go on national tv a few years ago, and make a statement. He basically said along the lines of 'this is Australia, not mini *insert any other country name here*. We are a Christian country, not a **insert any other religion here* country. Other nationalities, and members of other religions are more than welcome to come here and contribute to our country and reap the rewards of doing so, but you do not have the right to choose to come here, and then try to change our country into a new version of your own.
He then followed with, 'if you don't like this, then please leave your Australian passport at the counter of the airport when you leave'.
I don't know of any other government official that would have the nerve to do that.

He is right though - they should be able to practice their religions, but not change the country chosen to come to in order to do so. But....are 'they' really doing that? Or is it us that are doing it so that we don't 'offend'. How can we assume that they will be offended?

Anyway - this is about a prisoner in prison getting something that he would have every right to on the outside, but should the taxpayer be paying for alterations, equipment, paint work in order to satisfy a criminal who lost their rights the minute they were found guilty?

So, if a British person (but how many generations of being British would be truly British) has broken the law - should they be accommodated? Or is it just for those that have set their roots in a new country?

I think we need to work out how long countries have been as they are, before we start saying such things as, quote "(but how many generations of being British would be truly British)". This suggests that vitually no nationality really exists, and all countries are a mish mash of different races from around the world.

Since WW2 this country has accommodated all sorts, before that, little changed for many years, probably centuries.

Being British does not mean much anymore, other than we are likely give up our traditions to accomadate any other culture that wants to settle here.

And I agree, its very annoying that its the long term British, that are the ones most likely to take this line, the PC brigade are ruining the country.

i'm just glad that in 30yrs I wont be worrying,

I didn't realise this subject would create such a debate.

My reason for posting was I wondered what next they are going to spend our Council Tax on?

    :(

If it was up to me anyone of a less than a three generation citizen of the uk, committing a crime in this country would be immediately deported back to were they origionated.

As for compases and the like, TOUGH these are priviladges that they give up when they comit a crime.

Agreed - another thing that Australia did - a UK citizen who had lived there since aged 10, a convicted paedophile, and upon his release from prison, as he'd never taken out citizenship, he was on a plane back here.....now wandering his own streets in his own country. Another example of how the Australian government has got the brass b*lls when it comes to this type of thing.
