Anyone have any idea what this is? It's growing in an American friend's garden, but may also grow here. The leaf looks familiar, but I can't place it. It's pretty invasive. Wood anemone maybe?

    Thanks.

I believe you may be right, Blackthorn. Looks like it's a wild geranium. Thanks. :)

OK, my friend reckons it isn't a wild geranium. She says, "I have some wild geraniums and they aren't invasive like these. They're shorter, too. These things are 12 to 18 inches tall. They split at ground level into 3 or 4 leaves on long stalks with a single flower stalk in the center. They break off easily at the roots and spread via roots and seeds. The flowers last about 3-4 weeks. The leaves stay healthy looking right up until the first hard frost in autumn."

Hmm... I thought it might be a wood anemone, but it has 5 petals, not six. This is growing in Maine, so spring is later there.
