    I like old habits ;)
    Well if I can achieve anything even half as impressive as your rose parterre then I will feel elated!
    That's a good idea ... I'll shall ponder on that: thank you! :blue thumb:

      Good Morning everyone,

      Cannot get on my garden too much like a quagmire underneath! Just got stepping stones between the patio and the lilac tree which provides the birds feeding station. That's as far as I can go! Over the years have added sand and grit to try and get the lawn more freer draining but in the summer it is the opposite it cracks up. There is a builders rubble site underneath as it is a corner plot.

      Shiney, that meal sounds wonderful. Hope you all enjoyed it.
      Eve, that's good news about the dogs passports.
      Loli and M, well done on all the plans for your gardens.
      WOO sincerely hope you are improving.
      Have a good day everyone, stay safe, dry and warm. God bless.:wub2:

              Morning WW'ers
              @moyra I can feel your frustration with your lawn - had the same issues at our previous house :grphg:
              @maria - Good morning! *waves :)
              @shiney - thank you for all that excellent information on coconut cream :thumbsup: very much appreciated. Hope your dinner guests enjoyed that wonderful dinner and you all had a pleasant evening :)

              Haven't slept well so may be a tad on the irritated side today. I don't have any mobile phone reception here, so I'm very dependent on the landline. Bought a new phone the other day, charged up the bases for 24hr (like it said) then plugged it in ... so far, so good. Bit surprised one of my son's hadn't called but guessed he must be busy. That is until last night. Mr "M" received a text from him (his mobile gets a signal from his room - top floor, FOH, when leaning at 45 degrees) to say he's been calling for the past couple of days but no one is answering. He was really miffed because he wanted to share his news that he'd got the temp job he was after :yes: It'll give him some extra pennies while he studies.
              :scratch: :th scifD36: :scratch: :doh: :gaah:
              If my telephone isn't ringing .... its possible the job I've applied for have been calling and I've been totally unaware of it!!! :mad: :mute: :wallbanging: I spent until after midnight trying to work out what the problem is to no avail. Had another look through the booklet to see what I may have done wrong but I've followed everything down to a T and its still bonkers. This bliddy phone may well have cost me a job opportunity. Ho hum!

              Wishing you all good connections with the people who matter to you xxMxx

                @"M" ....that is so frustrating...I'm sure you've already tried it but have you looked through the 'menu' on the handset? we had a similar problem once...when it came to the 'functions'..we set the 'ringer ' on loud ,yet it still didn't ring:rolleyespink: we'd missed a tiny button 'Ring off'on' on the base station,even though we'd practically turned the thing inside out:doh:

                  @Lolimac - no hidden tiny buttons, but thank you for the suggestion :blue thumb:

                  There is a helpline number, but not on Sundays! :wallbanging:

                    Morning everyone :)

                    I'm going to have a pyjama day today - got tons of work to crack on with on the PC, and after a thorough drenching yesterday I don't have much notion of going outside

                    @'M' - have you checked that you don't have a line fault rather than a faulty phone?

                    Can you make calls out?

                    The only other thing I can think of is if you have exceeded the REN for the property

                      1) The line shouldn't be faulty. It was checked (remotely) by an engineer when we first connected, plus, had an engineer out to put another socket in (and he replaced the original master socket too). The old phone was working ok with it :scratch: So that suggests to me that the line is ok? :noidea:
                      2) I have a dial tone :blue thumb: The other strange thing is, I have activated the base station answer phone facility and even *that* doesn't kick in (from our experiments last night). :dunno:
                      3) In English, please :heehee: What is REN, how is it used, how could I exceed it? :noidea:

                        REN = Ringer Equivalency Number

                        It doesn't apply as much nowadays, but from your descriptions your new home sounds as though you are somewhat out in the sticks?

                        Basically, on the older style BT copper wire connections (and not the newer BT Fibre To The Cabinet or Fibre To The Property), the line has a voltage & small current; the further you are away from the exchange, the more that voltage/current is attenuated and therefore gets a wee bit weaker.

                        To make your phone ring, this voltage and current is used (back in the day, it was literally to make the wee hammer go back and forth to ring the bells); the average REN (number of ringers/bells) that a line could support used to be four or five - - - but, for some properties out in the sticks, it could be as low as two simply because there wasn't enough voltage to run them all. Time was that ALL equipment that was capable of being connected to the BT (GPO) network HAD to have its REN marked on a rating plate somewhere on the unit - chances are if you looked on the underside of your base unit you would see a label (usually with a green spot on it) and it will show REN 2 or similar.

                        Assuming you have broadband through your phone line (and therefore filters), there will be a further slight attenuation. Then, if you have a couple of wired phones, a Sky/BT Vision box, and a cordless phone with an answer-phone.... well, you might have too many. If overloaded, none of the ringers will ring.

                        Unplug everything apart from one solitary phone, and plug that into the main/first socket if you can, and then get Mr M to do his lean from his room and try to ring your landline - if it rings, you know your problem. If not, come back to me and I will try and help you further
