What has served you well for a very small cost this year?

My favourites are 3 different coloured polyanthus which I have split to make 10 for a total cost of £1.16.

Secondly a fair few dahlia tubers which cost me 10p each and have caught up with others in a matter of weeks, should have a month or two of flowers before I dig them up for next year.

My Morrisons bedding dahlias (12 for £3) have all formed tubers too and should be good next year too. One is a lovely red with yellow fleck to it and the white one is huge!

I needed some "patching" plants for a basket and a container which had not prospered. Got 8 lovely trailing Begonias for £6 at a nursery end of season sell off.
Not as good a price as yours CharlieBot , but my £1 Wilko Cactus Dahlias are just starting to flower. Its one heck of a flower for a quid :dbgrtmb:
Bought a packet of Cosmos gazebo white for £1 last year , this has done 2 years sowing . I have 5 Cosmos just starting to flower another big lovely plant.

Best bargain for me has been a 50p packet of Cerinthe seed, if I remember I'll get a photo of them - I thought they may be good at filling a few gaps which they are, next year I'm growing them in a mass for effect.

Here's a few photos of the Cerinthe, it is a tough plant very fast growing from seed:

I bought two bulbs of Allium karataviense in a closing down sale for £1.50. As they are spring blooming they had already done their stuff but they arrived in growth with the seed heads - I now have a couple of hundred seeds for this too!

I had Cerinthe in my garden last year and the Bees adored it! I planted up a packet for my mum's wildlife garden (which cost me £3). Little did I realise how easily it self seeds, I have loads of seedlings popping up this year.

I will collect the seeds from my mum's plants and post some out to anyone who wants some.

Clerodendrum thomsoniae - 45p. I was delighted when I saw this as it was an unusual plant that I had admired for some time, and at such a silly price. Its starting to flower.

When it does flower it should look like this.

Other bargains have been Lotus maculatus £1, a small Aeschynanthus lobbianthus at 0.68p and others for £1 or less.

More expensive was a larger Aeschynanthus 'Big Apple' at £1.99. This is not my plant - but one grown at Wisley. However mine is now the same size and hopefully will look like this when it flowers early next year. Like the other purchases its a perennial so should last for many years.
