I agree. Even though we have had a lambing season without serious infection and an ideal Summer for pastureland / grazing, ( there are plenty of mature lambs on the land in East Sussex) the price is extremely high and it doesn't feature regularly on our table for a Sunday roast any more,

      British then :heehee:

Usually around December time, a certain supermarket (and some others too) have all their joints of meat selling at £5 a kilo ... so, a good sized leg of lamb it between £10 - 15? That's when I buy them and stock up the freezer. Must admit, I haven't been out looking for it this year though.

I do know that the price you saw would be standard price at a farmer's market ... and I do know that Mr T's profits have been bashed after the latest scandal ... maybe they are trying to restore their profit and loss with little lost lambs :heehee:

I think chilled, not frozen NZ lamb should be arriving soon? It's usually very good and a lot cheaper than UK lamb,

......And I thought Manx lamb was expensive, but I won't buy anything else. It's lean and full of flavour, possibly because all our lamb is from rare breeds. I wouldn't touch New Zealand lamb now though, I find it's tasteless and tough.

I love Lamb, it's my favourite meat. I keep an eye on the reduced section for bargain cuts.

I love lamb,in fact a nice leg of lamb roasted on a Sunday goes down very nicely especially slow roasted but I dislike the fact that it is a very fatty meat.I keep saying to Mr Kandy that they can land on the moon and on a Comet but no one can breed a nice sheep that is fat free:snork:

Many years ago on Countryfile I think it was one of the presenters visited a hill farm in Wales and was talking to the farmer about the sheep and he was told that when one of those Gigacounter(sp)thingies was moved across the sheep then the needle went off the scale:hate-shocked:The farmer told the presenter that hill farmers were still having problems on their hills after that nuclear disaster in Chenobyl(sp)when all that stuff came over here as the wind was blowing in the wrong direction so our country got the fallout. Not sure if this is correct but it hasn't put me off eating lamb although the lamb I eat probably comes fromNZ:biggrin:

Kandy you are right about Chernobyl. I don't think our hill sheep here have been given the all clear for the food chain yet, but Giga readings are now very low so it won't be long.

Thanks Sheal,I wasn't sure if I had dreamt up the story,or whether it was an April1st wind up:snork:

I still think a lot of the infertility and other health problems we have in this country is due to that Russian fallout as well as sugar, salt etc:snork:

I had a quick Google earlier and you can buy Welsh lamb at Waitrose and as the nice people there keep sending me money off vouchers £10 off of £40 shop x2 (better offer than Tesco's )I might get some as long as my car doesn't get crunched this time:sad:

Although I eat meat, I can't bring myself to eat a baby anything. Silly I know cos I eat them when they're adults

                    Today I have two moans.

                    1) I am full of lurgy and very grumpy with it.

                    2) Debenhams. Three times I've ordered off them recently, twice I've returned items and they've managed to cock it up both times and I've had to wait 3 weeks for my money back. The third time - I ordered a Samsung 50" telly which is supposed to be delivered today, but hasn't been despatched and their customer service department is worse than useless.

@merleworld send a link to this thread, quoting the page number and post number, to their customer services department. Explain to them that GC has over 12,000 members and this is not good publicity for them.

I'm sure that they'll be happy to correct the problems that they have caused. :blue thumb:

It always pays to, politely, point out mistakes that are inadvertently ;) occurring.

The people whose job it is to makes these companies run smoothly, and who try and head off bad publicity, rarely get the opportunity to sort things out before they have gone too far.

Unfortunately, the people that work beneath them don't always do their jobs properly. So they cause these problems.
