An arbour is firmly on my list. I shall have one someday.
I don't know how to describe the seating concept. It is more open plan, out in the grass (I'm not sure you could call it a lawn. There's some grass in it, but also a lot of character).

Well, I often get teased about the way my lawn keeps reducing of the years [especially by Sheal], but having a garden of character is important. Every garden has it's own character and if, when you go outside, it makes you smile then that's your garden.
The Arbor in pic is one I made myself out of spare wood in the Garage left over from other projects and once you concrete in the four main corner posts is very easy to do, even if you have no real idea of what exactly you're building or how it'll look when it's finished as was my case. I had no plans just something at the back of my mind.:dunno::snork:

You built the arbour? You wascally wabbit! It is really impressive. It never really occurred to me that I could actually DO all the things I've admired in gardens for years - they're apparently not out of reach for normal people. Can't wait to have my very own garden, though it will probably never ever happen. The garden we have at the moment has never been planned or planted with any shape or theme or sense. I'm determined to start bringing a little complimentary structure in, so it isn't wasted.

It was built out of old skirting board, unused decorative wooden strip for the kitchen, 4"x4" left over timber for the four corner posts [just had enough], 2"x 2" for the roof [again left over from a previous project, marine plywood again left over from a Loft job, and the seat is made from two pieces of an 2" x 12" old plank, with the "Green Man" metal motif from an old door, and lastly the small ornamental spire was bought at a Carboot sale for 50p. There's also a bird box in the roof where I get Blue Tits nesting whenever they want to.

If I can do it, DM, you certainly can. An arbour can be of any design and be as permanent or temporary as you like and it's nice to sit there watching the Sun go down.:hapydancsmil::snork:

              :sign0016: to GC @DMudlark

Don't worry about preferences ... if you are anything like me, they will change over time anyway :heehee:

So, are you in a rented property? Do you have to ask permission before you can add/alter things?

Bet your garden is going to look stunning when all those bulbs pop up and smile at you come Spring :blue thumb: You do know some of the more nosey GC members will want to see pictures, don't you  :heehee:

So, SO up for posting photos and seeing everyone else's! I've gone for some clashing bulb planting rather than subtle, more quiet and complimentary mixes. I was thinking high impact and mouth watering colour splashes.

I'm actually living at home, in the house my parents own. I don't see anything wrong with living back home personally, though I know a lot of people disagree. It can get really difficult. I've been away to uni and done three degrees, and not really enjoyed student accommodation, so home was a relief. Anyway, my mum has pretty much ruled the garden for our many years here, but now I'm around more I'm helping out and trying to get things done. I'm hoping that what I'm doing will make things easier for her, and that she'll enjoy them as well. We both have strengths in the garden, so we try to weave both of us in.

Reading Monty's Jewel Garden and Prickotty Bush has been a wonderful inspiration this year, especially as I have the big 'D' as well. Gardening helps me so much.

                  Welcome Danni

This forum really is fantastic and you'll have a lot of fun here as well as learning a lot amongst great company. Have to say there's a few GC members got me through some really dark times lately.

:roflol: sorry, but Armandii and "normal" in the same sentence :roflol:

I'm one of the nosy members "M" was on about and I can't wait to see pics of your garden. You don't have to wait till the new bulbs appear
