    Looks like a fine specimen of Great Plantain - Plantago major. I have seen a purple leaved variety offered for sale as a garden plant, but it's basically a weed (or wild flower, if you prefer).

    I'm pretty sure it is also a weed Steve. I pull it up in my garden anyway!

    Thanks Kate, oriental popy seed heads will be saved and some will go into the seed swap's next time around (both lists) and some will br grown for next year.

    First one, Plantain. Second one, Willow Herb? Not certain.
