Back from work and lunch with mother ......

Looked at those listing Kristen .... hmmmm wonder why those buxus didnt sell with a 99p start. I would imagine its possibly because it involved someone digging it up themselves maybe ??

It might then be worth me having a bit of a dig to see what the roots look like to see if they could be easily moved and potted up and then selling on in the future.

Either that or they would end up being binned off as dont really have anywhere for them and I am not sure a mixture of lavender and box would give me the look im after.

Hmmmmm more thinking to do ! :)

I recently listed fence posts for sale on ebay (left over from over ordering on a project) and because I couldnt remember what I paid for them, I couldnt remember what they were actually worth. I put in the listing "open to offers" and ebay withdrew the advert within a couple of hours. Had to relist in the end - but sold for £26 in the end which wasnt bad as I was just going to tip them but other half couldnt be bothered cutting them up to fit them in the car :hehe:

Am just having a view through the lavender choices again, as I have to order them before Tuesday morning to get them delivered on Wednesday.

How far apart would you plant each one .... so that I know how many to order ??

They vary in spread between 60 - 80cm's ... although all the ones I am looking at all measure 60cm in height.

    Any ideas anyone ? :)

Tut Sam, I think I answered this already, but it probably got lost in the eBay discussion so I won't hold it against ya!:D

I planted a lavender hedge a couple of year ago (but it was in the wrong place so I removed it). I spaced them about 6 inches apart in Spring and by summer it was dense and thick.

    HTH :)

PS you've inspired me to plant a similar hedge in the front garden:thmb:

oops yes you did ... sorry :)

Have just been reading some stuff online and that says 30cm for hedging. 45cms if you want them to remain in a round clump (which I dont). Am guessing that just means that it will take longer to grow together ? I can do them 6 inches apart - as long as it wont be overcrowding them, if you know what I mean ?

Am still thinking of going for a mix of purple, light purple, pale pink and white. Or maybe putting the pink on the other side. Keep looking at pictures of multi colours together and think it looks nice. That might just be me being a bit 'girlie' though :)

I take it your sticking to the one purple colour ?

Yes, sticking to purple! If I do it. I must check out that website I gave you - I've never used them but it was recommended to me by a nursery owner I know and I trust him.

If you are unsure, space out a little more.

I saw a cottage today when we were out with a lavender hedge on either side of the path up to the front door. The path was about 10 foot long and I would say there were 6 plants on each side.

Looks lovely, but I still prefer purple!

    Sam,

Lavenders do best when they get a lot of sun. I like the french lavender as it flowers for a longer time but probably won't grow as big as the english type

No problem there then ... the front of the house is in full sun most of the day :)

French lavender - i think is the ones with the fatter heads ? I have noticed this is the Lavender that is more available to buy but always looks much bigger to me. Might be wrong though.
