Any one know which variety of honeysuckle this is ?

Please excuse the dreadful photos - covered in green/black fly when I took photos :( for another thread. Have since chopped all the flowers off and seems to be ok now.

I want to plant the same honeysuckle the other side of the arch, as the braches are too tangled up now to try seperating them and trail up the other side as was suggested.

Problem is, I have no idea which one it is and would think it would look odd having two different kinds ?

    Anyway ...... photos .................

Have had a look online and think it might be Jappanese Honeysuckle. Not sure though :cnfs:

    s00k Sam

As I can see a bit of reddish purple on one of the flowers, I would guess it's the Lonicera periclymenum, the native Honeysuckle or Woodbine which would be blooming over there now.

Mine is in it's third blooming this year (I have three varieties, this being one) and I hate to say looks much healthier than yours despite the heat. My three are in different locations but I see no reason why you couldn't have two, perhaps the L americana which is a deeper purple so would complement each other well.

The other two of mine are L 'American Beauty' which is red/yellow and L brownii which is orange ... neither of these are scented. There is also a yellow L tellmanniana which is also not scented. I am sure there are more which I am not familiar with and others may be able to advise you..

Don't most honeysuckles have a relatively short flowering period? If that's right then I don't think it would look odd to have two different ones, an early and a late, so that they eventually tangle together to give a longer flowering period overall.

    Havent a clue lol

This is the first year I have had any decent flowers off it and had to cut them all off cause of the fly infestation :(

If that is the case, then I might take it all out completely and go for something that flowers for a lot lot longer.

    Any one know ?

Don't take it out. When I said it has a relatively short flowering period I just meant it doesn't keep its flowers all summer long. Its still a really nice plant. I believe they produce colourful berries after the flowers that stay on all winter (unless the birds bag them), but I can't speak from experience on that because mine has only just put on its first flower display this year too.

I didnt mean I was going to take it out right now :)

Not sure about the berries though as never noticed them before. Will have to have a read up at some stage, because I dont tend to have anything with berries incase one of the dogs eat them - you can never be too safe !

Okay, guys, I'm in a different climate as we well know. Mine is in it's third blooming this year. It's feet are in the shade ... never see the sun ... the head is in the sun.

    Mine in not L americana.

I will contradict Dai here as I'm sure yours is what I said and not what Dai said. What he is saying is too purple .. only you can prove whoever is correct by showing a photo of a flower in bloom (without infestation).

I have a feeling it is Japanese honeysuckle. very pale cream and yellow smallish flowers? I recognise the leaves. i have it in the front garden and it is choking everything and is about to be ripped out. I believe it is causing problems in forests too. Not the gorgeous native 'woodbine' that grows through our hedges.

See now I did say I thought it could be Japanese Honeysuckle, but then some of the pictures I looked at on the net look different.

I am sure I seen a couple of new buds yesterday while inspecting for flies .... so will see if anything more is happening with them .... will also trawl through my infested photos and see if I can see anything will no flies on for you all :)

Something that is anti-flies ..... hey that would be worth ripping it all out for :) :)

    Hi again Sam

That's a much better picture ... it looked like it had a touch of pink before. I think Granny is right. It could be the L japonica 'Halliana'.

    http://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/climbers/honeysuckle/classid.1678/

Completely different than mine although mine does have clusters of pale yellow flowers interspersed with the two-toned ones.

    Thanks Victoria.

I did say maybe Japanesse Honeysuckle on my first post, so glad you think it is also.

If not, it has to be as near as damn it! Will see if I can find one for sale somewhere local and then if not, try the net.

    Thanks :)
