Not directly answering your question, but I asked for advice on Books for Companion Planting a while back, and amongst those was "Best Border" which, as it happens!, arrived in the post today. Lots of pictures of Plant combinations, and planting plans too :thumb: Other good book suggestions in that post too.

I have a book called "The Garden Sourcebook" by Caroline Boisett which has pictures of all sorts of garden structures (chapter titles including: structural features like pergolas, topiary, contrasting colours, themes like Japanese and a section on plants too) which I dip in to for ideas.

There are quite a few photos on my blog of gardens we have been to in case they are any help (links in the menu on the right of my Blog's page)

I can vouch for Best Borders, if you want something in book form, rather than online.

    Here's one http://www.gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/dewstow-t29124.html right here.

    :)

(It's down near Chepstow if you want to go and have a look at it in person.)

I think I'm too far away for that, ever :) but thanks for that, was amazing. Now I've got delusions of grandeur as well an inferiority complex !!

You could have a look at other people's gardens on the 'Shoot' web site. However, having done some gardening in Edinburgh when we had a house up there, the conditions for growth were seriously different to this part of the world - especially the high winds and,etc.........

I would happily build you a "ruin" from reclaimed stone & lime mortar. No stranger to mocking up "antique masonry"

Nothing like coming across the " remains of a small castle" in the garden
