I'd be furious! The lady needs to plant a C. Montana. It will cover the fence again in no time.

It was an evergreen clematis so probably a Armandii or a variety of it. As we all know we are allowed to trim foliage that comes over a fence but we must give it back to the owners [not that they would want it:doh:]. However in this case it looks like there was already bad relations between the Neighbours and, according to the Newspaper, the perpetrators were actually cutting into the Clematis on their neighbour's side of the fence, which they are not allowed to do. So it looks like the Clematis was resting on the top of the fence which was taking it's whole weight, as many Clematis do, and when that was removed the plant had nothing to hang onto and collapsed:gaah: It's possible that the Clematis might regrow again but I've found evergreeen Clematis to be unpredictable when damaged.

With apologies to you, rosietutu, I would be grateful if serious off topic posts were not posted on a thread like this as we have suffered a series of peaceful threads being diverted by such posts and the threads original intention has become obscured. I would therefore ask that members of the GC family don't pursue the post on this Thread.:love30:

Good advice Armandii and very well put.
Rosie this is a great forum with very friendly, helpful members though some do prefer people to keep any opinions based on heresy in the media to themselves. This is due to recent upset and disharmony caused by such comments, which is thankfully now sorted it would appear.

I stand corrected, It was not meant to provoke, I will in future stick to gardening, dogs, and food. I have deleted it.

Potentially is - it certainly raised the blood pressure of a few neighbours in the article ;)
