If you're going to do it at home you would need some sort of video for you to learn from.

@wiseowl may be able to help you with picking one as I only know of one video.

Another good way to exercise is walking up and down stairs:)

Thank you so much wiseowl that is so lovely of you. I will let you know how i get on with all the vids on the internet first then if all goes well i may take you up on that offer

Unfortunately not for ME sufferers autumn bliss. The stairs are somewhat the energy enemy even as a mild to moderate sufferer i struggle reguarly to be able to make it up and down. I was very sick for three days following christmas because my brother decided to bring his cat to my parents house and incase it needed the toilet he kept sticking it in the downsatirs toilet/shower room which meant i had to keep going upstairs to go to the loo. My parents ceiling are 12ft so the stairs are longer than normal but it absolutely crippled me i could barely sit up.

Thanx shiney MS and ME have lots of similarities so still really helpful :-) will be checking out all the vids when i get home and can watch them properly

Im even thinking of getting a heart monitor as prof mark vanness said this

" We even provide tools like heart rate monitors to help patients avoid significant aerobic exertion."

So it anyone can recommend one and then i can try and save up for it.

This is him speaking about exercise and ME and the studies he is doing. Obviously i find it fascinating as its what going on in my body but i think its quite interesting anyway

Dont be put off when you study a DVD as often they will set out a program for basically fit healthy people who want to build, For people with say ME it can prohibit their approach as they think " I cant do it" So focus on what you can do ! One rep is better than none and is a step further than was perhaps done yesterday..

I am not really aware of what ME is. I understand the basics but not much more.

What I will say is there are lots of people with varying abilities and disabilities and I would encourage everyone to take part in any discipline or exercise they can no matter how little !

I have been a senior martial arts instructor for over thirty years and still to this day train and attend the gym. So while I may not fully understand individual conditions I maybe just be able to help with a wee bit of advice on what to do and how to do it.

Tai Chi is a discipline I have done very little of but it is perfect for anyone and that includes many with medical conditions. It is as easy or as hard as you make it or want it to be. Low impact with very little ability or strength required to give it a go !

The mind is the first element to give in. Ignore that and many can achieve far more than they ever dream t off . Go easy take care and most of all enjoy !

Thanx charlie and that is how i view things things are made for healthy people so i will never be as good. You get use to starting small and building up :-) and you have to redefine what you class as exercise. That is key

What martial arts do you teach?

I did tae kwon do as a child and i loved it

My core discipline is Wado Ryu . I started at the age of 11 and have always participated. My belief and intention has always been to teach self control while being and feeling in control. Many believe because a person does martial arts it makes them violent or prone to throwing their weight about. This is actually very much not the reality. My brother Robert and sister Mandy are very high up the ranks in taekwondo . Mandy was a European champion for many years. Of course we are all getting on a bit now !:biggrin::biggrin:

              Just done this video :-)

found it very easy which is very good news but will see if I have any PEM tomorrow but honestly i doubt it

Surprising positive tho is it got the blood circulating to my hands really quickly. My raynauds is bad at the moment cause its very cold and before i started my hands were like ice and stiff wasnt long before they were tingling.

whats also good is I didn't mention i have a slightly dodgy left knee from an accident in the playground at junior school. Basically my patella doesn't sit properly and my cartilage is extremely worn and repetitive movements like cycling or lots of squats etc can cause it to shift slightly and trap a nerve in my leg. I totally forget these days that i have a problem with it as its rarely pushed enough for it to be a problem. From that 8 minute session tho i dont see it being a problem for my knee either

so far tai chi seems to be a win win win.

              honestly I'm bursting with excitement!!!!!!

I have never heard of Wado Ryu before so im going to go google and youtube

Thats really cool about your brother and sister. I was one of the best in my class at tae kwon do I found it very easy and took to it really quickly. unfortunately lots in the class didn't including my brother so we would be stuck on moves for weeks and it became tedious and my dad couldn't take how slow it was anymore so we all stopped going which was a shame.

Tai chi employs moves not unlike stretching exercises which promote circulation. It really is a very nice gentle low impact discipline that anyone can try. Brilliant to see its not only working for you but giving enjoyment as well !
