Which Potato Variety do you Like?

    My Charlotte (lifted too early) tasted beautiful, (wish I'd left them in longer to get a better crop).... I now just have 3 Pentland Javelin plants left, and by the sounds of it I'm going to be disappointed. Boo!
    I've no experience of any others, it's my first year of food growing.

    This is my first year of growing spuds and i got a bag of organic orla to try as they were supposed to be good for mashing. I tried one earlier as a new potato and they are very nice, i dont think they will end up as mashed, too nice just boiled with a dollop of butter. Ive also planted some from asda and they are growing well too.

    Do Arran Pilot hail from Arran? For me that's an added incentive, living in Glasgow. Would be nice to stay local...

    Rather than eat them the same day as picking, we found our Pentland Javelin have improved by storing a few days. They are no longer breaking up and the taste has improved (difficult to tell as its so subjective, but thats what we think). It would be interesting to know if anyone else has found this.

    I've got plenty left in the ground ... I'll dig a plant up, cook half immediately, and the other half after a day or two.

    I'd be interested to hear what you think Kristen. On mine the lower leaves are starting to turn yellow, so I reckon they are about to finish growing anyway. I gave them a good soaking last night. I have been pleased with the yield so far.

    This is my second year of growing spuds. My faves so far are the Arran Pilot. Thought i'd give maris piper a go this year as well. Hopefully those will turn out well.

    Hi folks. I dug up some of my 'pilots' today. So much better than the 'Red Duke Of York's' I have been using so far. I wonder why I bother growing anything else, apart from yield, they've never let me down when it comes to flavour.

    Hi freddie i have always sworn by std white duke of york , disapointed this year though yield once i had left them long enough was very good.
    Taste spot on but for some reason instead of being a creamy texture they are very powdery , perhaps to dry maybe time to try another variety.

    I have been growing Roosters the past few years, great spud and always keep a few over winter to plant in the spring. Just dug the first Valiant, which are good, pentland Javelin disapointing this year as they are way late (usually eat them in May) Got Annabelle and others to try...

    Lifted my first Foremost last night. Steamed them and we liked the taste a lot, different to Arran Pilot, but suited us.

    Decided to lift a plant of "Foremost" tops had died down was quite suprised to find quite a few, beautiful uniform shape taters but...they tasted of nothing absolutly tasteless, what a dissapointment.
