Has anyone else noticed an outbreak of green flies in the early evening. I was unable to sit in my garden at the weekend as they were all over the food and my guests. Is it some plant i have? I have checked all the shrubs and bushes, but nothing is nesting on them.

I think its just the way it is. Early evening seems to be when they are most active. A tip that someone once gave me (although this was for wasps) was to put a container of sugary water somewhere nearby, but away from you, so that they all go over to that.

I was in Coventry at the Uni of Warwick last weekend and the place was swarming with them. Literally it was like a plague, never seen anything like it in London.

went cycling ,with one of my daughters ,i was wearing a bright yellow top.
we had been on the road for about an hour, when i noticed my shirt had turned green.it was absolutely covered in green fly,it was like a plague of locusts ,ascending on my shirt.this has happened several times.i have wore
several colours, but when i wear the bright yellow shirt,it seems to attract the green fly.so if you are having a barbecue ,
( DO NOT WEAR BRIGHT YELLOW !!!).

Am in Rugby, so not far from Coventry and have noticed way more than I have ever seen before.

My honeysuckle is covered in blackflies and greenflies and a couple of smaller plants have also just been treated.

Have also noticed a lot more flies, just flying around. We have even had a few in the house which is very very rare.

    Have no idea why though!

We did have an early hot spell. Maybe that brought them out of hibernation early or caused their eggs to hatch or brought them back from wherever they go for winter.

Ahh yes true. We were out BBQ'ing in April, yet only managed to have once since as the weather has been so hit and miss.

Supposed to be VERY nice next week though (am off work for the week too!).

Hopefully all the flies will disappear soon. Will have nothing left in the garden thats not covered at this rate :(
