Having looked in the what to do this month catagory and finding nothing I thought I would just see if anyone in here had any insight? I know June is quite late as far as most things I could grow from seed/bulb are concerned but I would really like to have some projects on the go. I would really like to grow things that would bring some colour to my raised beds this coming Autumn, any ideas?

    Thanks

    Eve

I plant Sweet William and Wallflowers now for flowering next Spring, but I guess you are looking for something to bloom this year?

It would be nice but I am willing to try all sorts! If I had the space I would plant everything going!! I just googled Sweet Williams and they look lovely and would be a great addition to my beds! Thanks!!

I am wondering the same thing myself. I have just cleared my main bed of what I now know to be weeds and things which have run riot, and I have spaces to fill.

If you are growing edibles I found this for you which might inspire? If not I will let you know anything that I come up with.

I haven't been brave enough for edibles yet but I am seriously considering it! On the same note, if its of any use to you, when I was searching I came accross this lady and I might follow a few of her sugestions too:

I would agree with SussexG. Its probably a bit late to sow seeds and get them to flower this year. It might be better to buy something, which will grow on and flower. However, now is an ideal time to grow biennials for next year. I just grow them in a reasonable size pot then plant them out in late autumn, when space becomes available.

These are two of my favorites, which can make a good show. These are a year after sowing. Lupins - the tall spikes and Hesperis, the pale purple.

This is another of my favorites - Salvia sclarea one year after sowing. The flowers are tiny, but what you see is the coloured bracts (leaves), which remain for a long time.

Thanks Peter, I love those Lupins, they are stunning, and the colours of all three suit me down to the ground! I can see I am going to be busy!!
