I'm planning out what to sow and plant out in my allotment. It's all new to me so I've been wondering if there is any benefit to having certain veg next to others to help pollinate them etc.

This is what I'll be planting and what I'd intended to grow it next to...

    Onion/leek/garlic
    Brussels sprouts/beet root/swede
    Lettuce/kale
    Chard/pak choi
    Cucumber/aubergine/courgette
    Celeriac/celery
    Runner beans/French beans
    Carrots/parsnips
    Cauliflower/calla reuse broccoli
    Cayenne peppers/sweet peppers/tomatoes

Would this be ok? Does anyone have any advice on the ideal placing?

Forgot to mention that the soil is pretty decent quality, not too clay or sandy and was dug over with organic material last year apparently. I'm doing the same as I'm preparing the beds. A ph test showed the ph being about 7.5. The plot is pretty open with trees to the rear behind which the sun sets, so the plot will get sun for the majority of the day as summer comes. It's currently in shadow from about 3pm.

    Try to divide them into...

    Roots,

    Beans/Peas,

    Onions,

    Potato family

    and Brassicas.

So each year you're moving them around to help prevent disease build up :)

Is it worth putting flowers in to help attract birds and bees to pollinate everything?

One little tip I was given a lot of years ago:yikes: (50+) was to plant 1 row onion then one row carrot for as many rows as you want, the chap who told this said the carrot fly do not like the smell of onion ans the onion do not like the smell of carrots.I do this every year and have had very little problems with flies.
