    Hello from Scotland :)

I'm a 2nd year horticulture student @ Elmwood College, Cupar in Fife.
When I tell people this, sure as fate, they will ask me a question I can't answer. lol

My garden is huge, east facing at the front and west at the back.

I am about to tackle the jungle that describes my garden....you would think, I would have a stunning space what with being at college, but it's a bit like painters/joiners/plumbers etc... who despite it being their trade, they do this all day for a job, yet when it comes to their own homes, they can't be bothered to tackle all the jobs that need done. Well, same for me in creating my own garden space.

From what some neighbours have told me, the old man who used to live here grew veg and tended his garden every day....he must be turning in his grave to see what it has become now.

Lack of money and help to tackle everything that needs done has been getting me down, but, it's time to get stuck in and blow my neighbours away with creativity. lol

Welcome to Gardeners Corner Vinca. :) It sounds like you have a bit of a challenge on your hands but the skills you have gained at college will help. Even as a student you shouldn't be expected to know everything, gardening is a continuous learning process, even for the experienced.

In Scotland you may find it a little more challenging than elsewhere but we have other members that live there and I'm sure they'll be willing to help you along the way, as well as the rest of the 'crew' here. :)

Cupar, my Aunt and Uncle used to live there (both now deceased) in a place called Moonzie Bank - I always thought it would be a fabulous place to live, such a cute name! Rest of family on Mums side are in Dundee - I love Scotland sooooo much x

                        Thanks for the welcome everyone:)

It seems like a friendly place and I'll be having a wee read through the threads. Despite being at college, there is loads off stuff I don't know, but as someone said earlier it takes years and you cant know everything.

LyndaG it's a small world, eh. I don't live in Cupar but my brother does, I'm only 9miles away though. I like my college as it's small and more friendly than the larger ones. I'm hoping to return for a 3rd year after the summer.

I'm off to b & q to buy a Salix "Kilmarnock Willow" for my mum for mothers day. Will pop by later. :spinning:

Just a thought ... why not invite your college friends round for a gardening party to kick start the project?
I did just that when I moved into a house with a jungle ... I provided the food and cans and my friends provided the extra muscle :heehee:

Now that is a plan, save my back and money:)

Once it's done and I decide what plants I want, a tour of the college with secateurs in hand is called for me thinks....only kidding, well, if they have too much off something then we are welcome to take them or any cuttings we want, we just have to ask. Got a fair bit of ground to cover.

Need to start saving for a greenhouse for next spring, but that's a while away yet, best concentrate on the basic jobs first...gettin ahead of myself there....:)
