Back to to topic, Benedict Cumberbatch has a huge following amongst the younger generation therefore if the film promotes the fantastic work of Bletchley park via his fan base then I am all for it. The understanding that war is not won by guns alone, needs passing to future generations alongside the pride of the work of our ancestors.
Not seen the film yet, but Alan Turing is revered in Manchester, having worked with the university on computer projects, indeed it is said that it was the manchester gay community that initiated the fight for Alan Turings' pardon.
Have I ever mentioned that I am proud to be a Manc! :snork:

I doubt that he could have defended himself. But had he been alive I also doubt that so many would have come forward.

Very true. The tragedy of Turing is that from what I have read it was not a great secret yet the establishment were still happy to leave him to the wolves as he had served his purpose.

The problem was Ultra was not known to the public or officials and was Top Secret for 50 years, no explanation of how great he was could be given, so yes he was thrown away

Benedict Cumberbatch may indeed have a huge following, but I still don't feel he was the right person for this film. Alan Turing and the fantastic work of Bletchley Park IMO deserve a better made film than this one.
