So.... for most of us the toms are growing, the chillies, the peppers, the herbs, the potatoes, but.....
I still have room for a few more pots or troughs as I imagine others have too. What can we still plant this late, that is good eating?
I got some free seeds off a magazine today.... some radish (Hilds blauer Herbst und Winter which are apparently a long, purple root) and some Romaine Ballon lettuce. I'll give these a go.

But are there any other reccomended "late" crops that are worth planting now?

    Ta!

Well beth thats poor advice, what about spinach, rocket, carrots, peas, runner beans & courgettes/marrows they can all be easily grown from seed right now and provide plenty of good eating over the summer. Thats what I've still got to come, I'm sure others can add to the list.

Cheers JWK, (I think beth is more interested in promoting her florist service?). I've already got some courgettes going along, I think I'll give some carrots and some spinach a go. Thank you for the suggestion.

    Carrots are good in containers.

You might be better off with Leaf Beet than Spinach. Tastes similar, but goes on ... and on ... and on :thumb: so you get more for your money / space.

I'll be planting some peas over the weekend (from seed) and some more beans, beetroot, and radish and I also want to plant out some chinese cabbage if its not too late.

I did not know I could still grow courgette from seed at this time of year, so will have to get down the garden centre for some.

    Steve...:)

Early June is the latest sowing data for courgette and squash, so get them in asap. Don't expect any produce till late August/Sept time. If you can get plants that would give you a head start.

I think its a bit late for Courgettes and Squash, getting late for Runners, and French beans are OK for another couple of weeks.

Have a look at the back of the seed packets, and buy plants (if they have any) for things that are pushing it.

You'll still get a crop if you are a couple of weeks late, but if its going to be that late wouldn't plants be better to get you back on season?

Now is the time for Chinese Cabbage sowings though :thumb:

I'm pleasantly surprised to read that we're not too late for peas and french beans. I have a piece of south facing wall with space at the foot of it. I might get some strings across it and get some on the go.
