I am a novice gardener ,who has tried many new things this year. However i have several fruit trees, apple, pear plum. My problem is that my crop always (last 2 years) seems to start growinf , flowers lovely etc. Then for some reason i seem to become infested with what looks like fluffy white gumpf on the top few branches, then i get an infestation of what looks like to me little tiny black beings. I have coated the bottom of all my fruit trees with fruit tree gum, but it has not helped .Any advice would be greatly appreciated, i do not want to lose any more of my fruit. The smaller fruit seems to be dropping off daily .
If it helps it looks like my potatoes grown in a large container also seem to be getting infested with the same type of being.
    Many many thanks

from the sounds of you you might have spider mite, not having any fruit trees I don't know what to do about it and with the spuds I'd remove the infected bits and see about a spray (not knowing if your growing organicly) I may be wrong but it might be worth having a look online for spider mite to see if that's what it is.

I would take a sample to a local nursery and see what the experts know about what's happening. They would know what to do about it too.

Wooly aphid I reckon. Any good garden centre should sell "spraying oil". You may need to hit them 2-3 times, but it is safe to use on fruit and it will kill them in the end. Other wise just wash them off with soapy water and a J cloth (if you can reach).

    Good Luck
