I was replacing guttering today and renewing facia boards on a very old house, Around 90 years old.

On levering off the old facia I was confronted by some massive old fordged nails, varying from the one shown at around 4" to one nearly 8" long...... must be origional, even found were the chippy had initialed the back of one of the boards! Took some prying off lol.

Always suprising what crops up on old houses!

It's interesting finding that sort of thing Paul, those are massive old nails, they knew how to hammer them in without splitting the timber.

Same here BM, have you ever tried hammering them back in after taking off your skirting? I never can they just bend over. God knows how they did it originally.

I had some replaced and the plaster board popped :dh: I thought the flippin wall was gonna come down. I had asked them to be screwed back on  muppet ! How in gods name they get multiple ones in I really don't know. They don't seem to have a penetrating tip to look at :cnfs:

Presumably they must have made a sizeable pilot hole, probably in two stadges so as to get the taper. Makes me feel lazy fixing the new up with a pasloade nailer, the origional carpenters would be quaking in thier boots!!!!
