My summer bulbs have been planted and kept in my conservatory for two weeks now. How long do you think it will be until i start to see new shoots?
    The bulbs are:-
    Crocosmia emily mckenzie
    Zantedeschia auckland
    Canna black knight

I planted 3 black Knights 2 weeks ago on a windowsill, starting to see it sprouting already, although I have covered them with plastic sheet ( don't know if this is right though?) I also planted a few Crocosmia lastweek, so will interested to see when they start to sprout, same with my dahlias.

Still nothing seems to be happening here. Still a bit cold outside at night. Had frost this morning. The conservatory is warm during the day but goes down to about 7*c at night. I'll keep an eye out to see what happensand post any updates.

It can take a few weeks for them to start shooting. Your crocosmia would be better off planted direct outside as they are very hardy, the other two are frost tender.

I've planted the Crocrosmia in the same pot as the Canna Black Knight. There are a few in one of the other pots but don't want the bulbs to rot. I heard that you shouldn't water them after the first soak until the shoots start to show?

With Canna you don't want them soaking wet (yes they might rot), also they must not dry out either (they will wither away). You need to monitor the pot and give it a little water if it feels dry.

The compost feels moist so i'm not going to water until it needs it. Plenty of moisture in there. I think it's the temperature that's slowing things down. 4 weeks since planting now so I'm hoping to see shoots this week.

Still no sign of the others. Keeping them in a growhouse in the garden now but still nothing. Both the Daliah Bishop of Llandaf have sprouted but no sign of my Canna, Calla lilies or my Crocrosmias.

Oh gracious, I was going to plant my summer bulbs straight into the garden, should I plant them into pots first? Or have you all planted yours in pots to get a head start?
