My over winter stored Dahlias are showing no sign of life, I want to plant them now in my borders. Should I be concerned that there is no new shoots starting to appear ?

Hi Bally. Did you put them into pots/trays to start them off ? If so, and they still haven't made an appearance, I reckon they're dead, sorry.
    Cheers...freddy.

Spray them several times a day with warm water, if they don`t start sprouting inside a week dump them and get new stock.:gnthb:

Last year, I bought 3 x tubas and planted them, later getting some truly Beautiful blooms of each. This year we have just the one that has survived the winter without storing and just yesterday, I spotted yet another hole very close to the survivor for the umpteenth time this year and shown in the photo below. Have any of you exactly what is causing it to appear, because it goes down 3" - 4" and with no sign of a mouse, or anything else. As for the clothes line prop, it is always placed well away from here.

    Thank you.

I have taken all my Dahlias out of the garage and placed them in my cold frames, half of them had small shoots appearing so I will water with warm water frequently hoping they will chitt a little more before I plant out just to make sure their definitely not dead . The other half where dead as when I gave the tuber a little squeeze they just turned to dust!!! And are now in the compost heap.

What a shame, Dahlias are gorgeous too. I was wondering-I don't lift mine-infact I lift nothing mainly because there is no chance of me ever finding it anyway, and the odds of me creating a scene from Arnageddon are pretty short. I use what I have available armfuls of leaves to cover them over winter. So far no noticeable problems, am I just lucky so far do you think?
