I am going to throw another name into the mix, Stranvaesia. Not Photinia but a member of the family.

I get seedlings of this in various places in my garden, I take it to be Portuguese Laurel.

I've just taken this pic but the light is not good.

There are some large almost tree like ones in the local park, I should have taken a pic when I was there at the weekend.:dh:

Bearing this in mind I tend to think the plant in question is not a "laurel" (prunus), but more likely to be what Lavender originally said it was.
    He is rarely wrong.:thumb:

Seeing the new photos I will stick with Photinia Red Robin.
Stranvaesia as a genus no longer exists, it was re-named Photinia some years ago, however it had much narrower, undulating leaves.
Pete, that is the first time, as a 6'2", 15 stone skinhead, that I have been called she!!!!
