As many of you realise Im new to gardening ? How new ? Green behind the ears !

But last autumn we (That is she who must be obeyed) and me planted two trees.
First in was a pear tree. William or something like that ? Well its covered in white blossom now and looking stunning. I planted that ya know ! Me that is !

Second was a 4 metre (When planted) Japanese maple called autumn blaze. Not sure if its a maple or an Acer cos the bloke at the garden center confused the hell out of me ! Any way its sprouting leaves like there is no tomorrow ! I reckon its going to be a dazzler !

So that's two trees planted and doing well and best of all old dopey here planted em ! Do you reckon I should get a prize ?

In July last year my girlfriend bought an Acer and to this day I still don't know her password.

Oh, it's an Asus. My mistake!

Plant Taxonomy of Autumn Blaze Maple:

Plant taxonomy classifies Autumn Blaze maple tree as Acer x freemanii 'Jeffersred' Autumn Blaze®. It is a hybrid of the red maple (Acer rubrum) and the silver maple (Acer saccharinum). 'Jeffersred' is the cultivar, while Autumn Blaze is the trade name.

                  Plant Type:

Autumn Blaze maple trees are deciduous trees.

                  Characteristics:

At maturity, Autumn Blaze maples will reach
about 50 feet tall by 40 feet wide, with a rounded crown. Fortunately, maturity comes relatively quickly: their fast-growing nature is one of their best qualities. The branching pattern is dense and ascending.

They come into their own in fall, as their fall color is a vivid brilliant orangy-red.

                  Planting Zones:

Acer x freemanii is best grown in planting zones 3-8.

Sun and Soil Requirements for Autumn Blaze Maple:

Best grown in moist but well-drained soil andin full sun to partial shade. They prefer a soil pH that is acidic.

                  Landscape Uses:

Autumn Blaze maples can function in the landscape as fast-growing shade trees and asspecimens highly valued for their fall foliage. With back-to-back "Urban Tree of the Year" awards in 2003 and 2004, you know they are pollution-tolerant (an important consideration if you will be growing them along a street in a busy neighborhood). As with other trees deemed suitable for urban areas, they can adapt to a wide range of soil conditions and are both insect-resistant

 Totally, thoroughly and absolutely understand your excitement: well done!! :dbgrtmb:

Now you can appreciate why people say that gardening can be "rewarding" .... just wait for those pears to develop and then you could be eating your own grown poached pears, or, pear crumble!! :love30:
Wouldn't advise eating the maple though ... :th scifD36: .. and, best not attempt maple syrup from it either  :)

A wee picture of the Autumn blaze. It was only planted late last autumn and was about 4 metres when planted. There were no leaves on it ten or twelve days ago and no its going great ! Im so pleased its away as its the first tree Ive ever planted ! Fair chuffed I be .

It's looking good. A lovely specimen.

I'd perhaps google tree supports. It looks like you've attached that very tightly to the support. Your Acer though will be growing big and strong and getting a fatter trunk as it grows. Yours looks like it's in a tight corset that's ready to burst!
I think these days they suggest allowing trees to flex in the wind so that they grow stronger roots that are better able to support them.

(Edit: also, being boring, in the UK we don't get as spectacular colours as they do in the eastern USA due to us having a lower temperature difference between night and day. So it won't look quite as good as the photos. But still a very attractive tree.)

The straps holding the tree to the post in the ground are soft rubber to allow for movement. I think what you are looking at is the tree where its strapped to the graft ? It a grafted tree . Im not entirely sure what that is but it is a grafted tree. Anyway it can flex in the wind.

I imagined that when the tree has been in for a couple of years the post I put in for support can be removed ? Not at all sure .
This tree was only planted very late autumn so I would think the post needs to stay fro a while yet ? What do you think ?

                            As always thanks !
