Went to my local Morrisons yesterday and they had Olive Trees for sale, was very interested in them, but I have never grown them before. So looking for a bit of information about them.
    £15 each 2 for £20

Theyre tough. Can take the cold, love the full sun and heat. May drop their leaves if they run dry but will regrow after a good watering. Produce nice flowers and will set fruit if happy but they cant be eaten really.

Ian , we got an Olive standard tree 2 years ago. It looks good all through the year very tough , may need a little protection if we have a really really hard winter.
Go and buy them now before they all go !:dbgrtmb:

Mines been in a terracotta pot for about 5 years. This is a very poor photo of 1 of the dozen or so olives it grew last year.[IMG]

I saw these, saw the self same plants at a garden centre for £29.

Nearly bought one myself, but I already have one, growing like the clappers in the garden.
I've seen them kept in pots for years, they are used to struggling on poor dry soils.
Just make sure you feed a few times in the growing season.

@Ian Taylor You won't regret it, enjoy them. They'll live in a pot for years as long as you don't let it get waterlogged. I'd leave them in those pots, water and feed for the next few weeks and then transfer to a slightly larger pot in a few months or at this time next year.

The other advantage of keeping them in pots for a while (aside from that you're moving) is that you can move them around to see which position they like best and if we have a really hard winter you could move them inside or into a sheltered position this year (after that they should be fine).
