Hedge cutting can be an arduous task. So having a decent machine that is not too heavy is a aid to say the least.
Above that a machine that lacks quality can be a nightmare ! Anyone ever tried starting a machine that just wont start ? How long will a machine that costs £70 last

I started with a Ryobi. It cost about £150. It was heavy. It was an absolute pig to start. It wore me out in no time and I'm a large fit chap. It lasted just one season then died and would not start again. I took it in for repairs and was told it would cost £100 to repair. It went to the recycling center.
I then bought a Stihl machine. Its so easy to start. Its quiet. Its light and It doesn't wear me out . And the quality is excellent and it will very likely out last me.

See where I'm going with this ?

How much hedge do you have to cut? and of what type?
I have had a McCulloch Gladiator 550 petrol trimmer for about 7 years now, it can be a bit slow to start after not using it for a while, but otherwise performs reasonably well. (Cost abou £100.00 nowadays) - Last season I invested in a lighter Bosch 41 re-chargeble trimmer (paid £65.00) - very lightweight and will cut for about an hour on a charge - enough time for me to cut about 30 mtrs x 1.5 mtrs high of privet on both sides.

Its not only how long wide or high the hedge is its what type ? Privet is just so easy it never going to load or strain even a light machine.. Try a nice big beech and see how long a battery one lasts ?

I got a Ryobi Petrol Hedge trimmer from Costco for £120 last year, and it worked OK. It started fine, although very loud and a bit heavy side. I hope it will start and work OK this year.

Ryobi Petrol Hedge trimmer started OK today for the first time since last autumn. Cut the front hedge, and did a good job.

Just read the title so i assume the £70 trimmer is from aldi? How is it? I've seen some cool things in their lately for the garden but i'm always worried about the quality. If you bought it would be great to hear your review?

Actually i'm a bit confused about the original message in here, all the messages aren't in date order. I thought this was a recent post but guess not.
