Planter dilemma!!

    That's very useful to know, thank you. I live in the Midlands, a hard water area. I've been to a garden centre today, the lady there said Acers don't like windy areas, my pot is in the shade ALL day and the garden does get breezy. I was told the same about Cordylines. I'm just as confused now as before!! The lady there recommended a rose bush, but I wasn't keen.

    How about a Sarcococca, it's a glossy dark evergreen shrub, pretty indestructible, thrives in shade, has the most wonderful scent all winter and black berries in spring. For added prettiness in summer how about some solar fairy lights or simply plant a couple of annual climbers in spring to wind their way through,. And you want sarcococca confusa - it forms better bush shape.
