These days I tend to wait until films come to TV but, if I were to go to the cinema the attraction would be Bill Murray ("What About Bob?" is one of his lesser known films and very good/amusing).

Jeff Bridges tends to be good value for me - he was outstanding in my all time fav film The Fisher King, which deservedly got 2 Oscars.

He just got better and better with age. The Unforgiven and the Bridges Of Madison County were his finest performances. He is also a damned fine director.

Not forgetting The Fabulous Baker Boys and The Big Lebowski.
Talking of the Fisher King we appear to have forgotten Robin Williams.

Of course not forgetting those but, for me, Jeff Bridges was exceptional in The Fisher King and was when I first got to appreciate his talent.

I hadn't forgotten Robin - this thread is about fav actors. Whilst Robin MADE The Fisher King special, he is not an actor I would have made an effort to go and see at the cinema. That said he was a comic genius and a very sad loss.

        There are too many actors/actresses whose name adds gravitas to a film. A couple more;

        Kevin Spacey
Bruno Ganz. He gave the best performance of Hitler that I've seen in Downfall.................

By saying Robin was not my fav actor, that is not to undermine him i.e. of course he is a good actor ... just not one I would have made a special effort to go and see (which is what this thread is about).

As I said, for me it is definitely about the director. Most actors have done some stinkers but directors tend to be more consistent. Katherine Bigelow is another quality director.

Well for me - in certain films - it would be the screen playwriter that holds the attraction.....I'm thinking here of Neil Simon. He wrote some of my fav films - The Odd Couple (although Walter Mathhau and Jack Lemmon I would go see also), The Sunshine Boys, Barefoot In The Park - all highly entertaining with some brill oneliners in them! Didn't used to go to the cinema much when I was younger, when I did it would be to see Jerry Lewis or Norman Wisdom who used to crease me up with laughter.

Favourites now are really too many to list all but a few:

              Ralph Fiennes
              Ken Stott
              Liam Neeson
              Al Pacino
              Robin Williams
              Robert de Niro

              Cate Blanchett
              Emilia Fox
              Judi Dench.

Matt Damon for his Bourne films, Liam Neesom for his action films, particularly the Taken trilogy and The Grey. And anything with Arnie in

Just started watching a movie just because Idris Elba is in it so i should of had him on my list

If they ever did make him bond i think i would actually watch that bond film (havent seen one yet)

Hes an amazing actor but also probably the most attractive man on the planet imo
