Just had a wonder round Wilkinsons in my lunch break. The store in town has loads and loads of plants (all new in today) and all reduced from £4 to £2.

    Hosta's
    Astible (red, pink & white)
    Salvia
Cottage plants - different ones (cant remember any of the names now!)

There were trolleys and trolleys full and all marked down so they must have a promotion on at the moment to get rid of them all. All healthy looking plants too as only just arrived in store today.

They also had all their individual bedding plants reduced from £1.49 each to 50p (the ones that they have been selling in cardboard cups each)

Thought info might be of use to someone.

Might go back after work and get a few .... :)

Careful though... the plantlets and roots are usually very poorly and need extra TLC in order to survive. Then again, with those prices you can buy in bulk and just hope at least some of them will survive.

This spring I bought 2 Astilbes (doing very well in deed, grown in pots), 2 of the ... mmm... you know, the giant spiky killer, thistle- like, 1/2 is growing, 3 baby's breaths, no survivors there. Last Autumn I made a true bargain, 2 bags full of bulbs for a tenner. Most of them survived, appr. 500 plants.

I just hate the way they label their plants, a few leaves and an instructive tag " garden plant £1.99".

Also, I just detest the plot in displaying the "reduced to clear" dying plants just in front of the entrance. I mean, who can resist a dying marvellous Azalea that is just crying for your help... even if you haven't really got the place and frankly, don't like Azaleas. Mr Wilkinson really knows how to get my inner F. Nightingale fighting there. [IMG]

    Echinops?

I bought some cheap, cheap daffs at Wilkinsons last autumn and they all bloomed. Bargain!

I did buy some of those boxed perennials earlier this year, but from B&Q. Overall, they weren't worth it. I'd say only half appeared and of those, they look a bit weak and spindly. I thought I'd go a bargain, 10 plants for £10.00 but on reflection, I didn't.

And yes Selleri, the labelling abilities of Wilkinsons leaves a lot to be desired!:D

To be honest, Wilkinsons is the only place in our town centre that sells plants (apart from the new poundshop now) so Ive always picked up bits from there in the past at lunch times.

I would say that the high majority of the plants have all survived ..... but would agree that sometimes there labelling isnt great esp. when I dont know what they are either!

The reduced to clear section always makes me a little sad though when you see them completely dead and neglected :( Same at B & Q though i suppose!

Off to town tomorrow, hope Wilkinsons have some of their offers left .Bought a lot of their plants when I started my little garden 3 yrs ago, they are all in great shape and coming into bloom. Fingers crossed.
    Cheers Barb.
