    Hi all

Sorry if this is embarassing another beginner's gardener question, but I have 2 enormous, beautiful fig trees in the house we've just bought. The trees are full of figs of all sizes & my question is how do you tell when they're ripe for picking. Do they change colour, do they droop (most seem to grow almost horizontally until they get quite big).

    Thank you

Figs are ready to pick in their second year and are soft, often with splits in the skin at the stalk end, they will also hang down. Often a small drop of liquid which is the nectar will drip from the eye.

Thank you jonny boy that sounds straight forward enough. These are mature trees so hopefully they'll all ripen nicely.
